Hello Kathleen,
My work has taught me a lot about "one man's meat is another man's poison" for want of a bettanalogy.
I know that you are not making light of Jayson's problem,
( but I'm not trying to belittle the situation, I know some people have serious issues, but you think they'd get used to it after a few times. )
but it really doesn't work that way. I consider myself (within reason) pretty balanced and reasonable. I am lucky in that I can give my total faith to pilots, surgeons, dentists etc without any thought about it. I just don't think about it until the needle's in my mouth or the plane hits turbulence etc
But tell me this. Why, about 12 years ago when I had some intestinal problems and at one point the ward sister said that if I didn't visit the toilet successfully that afternoon she would instigate an enema, why did I spend 24 hrs avoiding every member of staff I met by hiding and disappearing and getting really agitated. I eventually got a family member to bring me in some laxatives and thereby negated the problem.
Perfectly reasonable person goes over the top whilst his wife was subjected to far worse by doctors at and before the birth of our children.
I was scared witless. I felt like a threatened rape victim. Pursued with intent to defile. Crazy? Maybe?
No, WE are ALL different. I know a fireman that has twice risked his life in rescue situations who cannot visit people in hospital? Why? He doesn't know.
We all need to face our demons but we sometimes need help in doing so.
It is always worse when it is a family member about whom you know so much. If someone is a little lacking in courage generally it is usual to assume that this is the cause once again. Amazingly I have found out that this isn't always the true reason.
Roger
