If not for God, then for what?

Life needs the purpose that it seems we forgot

For in our rush for equality and safety

We’ve lost our shared spiritual integrity

.

Not for all, that omnipotent king

Nor neither that creator of everything

For some have a need for belief in a deity

While others find their goals in symbolic idolatry

.

For some, God’s inside us controlling our life

Sharing fleshy home with Satan, producer of strife

But common to most is a sense of shared past

And a feeling that we’ve a spirit that strengthens and lasts

.

The atheists they scorn but they lack common cause

Often claiming that it’s religion that causes most wars

But nearer the truth is that most warring leaders

Use religion to divide and deceive us

.

So praise your God who sits upon high

Let spiritual upliftment be your answer why

For we’re better for striving our great goals to achieve

If we’ve a plan or a programme to complete as we leave

Confusing Times

There’s a place in history, that place is now

A place in history where we wonder how?

Man sets rules of fairness and equality

But wars still seem to happen and become the priority

We stand up in Brussels, New York and The Hague

Our voices are loud but our commitment is vague

TOO VAGUE

Surely nothing’s that bad?

What do you think is the worst thing that you ever did?

Was it last week or last year, or when you were a kid?

Enough to shake an empire or enough to rattle Rome?

Was it far away, or when you were close to home?

.

.

I’m sure that you remember quite enough to make you wince?

Was it when you were frightened and have you been so ever . since?

Or were you telling lies in an effort to convince?

Has your conscience often told you or sometimes given hints?

.

.

Can you now forgive yourself fully and make the matter closed?

Can you get on with living life the way that God proposed?

Or does your misdemeanour chain you to over-penitent ways?

For your own sake forgive yourself and the rewards will amaze
