My London revisited
© R L Macdivitt 2010
The London sky hung leaden grey
It felt as if I’d hardly been away
I had missed this city’s hectic style
I always do when away awhile
.
A vibrant city, well resourced
But it holds the power to exaust
The visiting tourist unprepared
And the visiting driver soon ensnared
.
Although I never call it home
I know each famous tower, spire and dome
Now back again, this time for pleasure
I enjoy it’s sights and parks and trees at leisure
.
London still retains a special charm
It’s districts still reflect both farm
And nursery, village and small towns
The names remain in urban surrounds
.
Governments come and governments go
Summer, sun and winter snow
And voices speaking every tongue
Whispered, called and sometimes sung
.
There’s nowhere like it anywhere
A grubby noisy love affair
Of peace and quiet midst cosmopolitan sounds
With natural sights in city surrounds
.
London calls me then demands
It’s vibrancy attention commands
The city’s surprises never end
New things to find, you can depend
.
I know that life will take me away
Life demands I keep short my stay
But without doubt, that mystic draw
Will bring me back and that’s for sure
