Re: Autism. A most misunderstood illness of children

Hello Roger

It is very nice hearing from you again and I really appreciate you stopping by.

This is one forum where I don't mind so much that people don't post a lot. I know that this information is reaching people because of the number of visits here. To date, there have been 5,089 visits to this forum and that is all I need to know to keep me committed to this cause.

I think that one of the reasons I have become so dedicated to autism advocacy is because of how this disorder manifests itself in our children and the impact it has on the parents.

So many parents have described a very sudden onset of this disorder, often following shortly after having their children vaccinated. They describe their children as being very happy and well adjusted little babies who suddenly seem to reverse their progress and begin to lose what skills they had already aquired.

I have heard from parents who say their child was developing language and social skills just as expected and then, all of the sudden, they can no longer speak in sentances. They no longer look into their parents eyes and don't respond when their names are called. This causes many parents to feel as though they have done something terribly wrong to their child. They feel such guilt and shame that they often isolate themselves from the world and try, desparately to rectify a situation that they do not understand. When they seek medical advice, it seldom answers their questions. When they search for a reason, they are given nothing. When they seek advice and comfort they are left clueless and hopeless. Once a diagnosis is actually made, they are told that there is no cure and no way to determine what went wrong. This leaves the parents in a terrible state of always wondering what went wrong and could they have done something to prevent this from happening to their child.

The guilt and frustration lingers on and on and in time takes it's toll in other, unexpected ways. Depression, broken marriages and financial ruin are just a few of the potential consequences of living with such a overwhelming set of circumstances.

I Believe that there are more answers about autism than are being revealed. I believe that it is a preventable, treatable disorder and that the real truth lies buried under corporate greed and political corruption.

So, I believe that getting to the truth is the most important step we can take towards solving this mystery and ending the misery caused by autism. The answers lie just below the surface so we have to just keep on scratching until we dig up the truth.

So, we can never lose hope and we can never give up. Take care now Roger and thank you for caring.

Sincerely, Billdaddy

“Eli Stone” Vaccine/Autism story line airs TOMORROW

Please take a couple of minutes to call ABC and thank them for not bowing to pressure from drug companies and the American Academy of Pediatrics to cancel “Eli Stone,” scheduled to air tomorrow, January 31 at 10:00 Eastern.  This network needs to hear from parents of vaccine-injured children, whose stories have been successfully swept under the rug by Big Pharma for years.  This is an important step in getting the truth about vaccine-injured children into the mainstream where it belongs.

We heard from an ABC employee yesterday who commented that so far, the overwhelming majority of comments the network had received were from the medical community—on both sides of the issue.  When asked her thoughts after viewing the “Eli Stone” episode this same employee stated, “I had no idea about this issue.  My eyes got watery.”  We need to let the people at the network know of the profound effect vaccine injuries have had upon families, and now is our chance to do just that.

Ms. Hope Hartman, ABC Network Vice President of Media Relations 818.460.6360.

We’ve been told that Ms. Hartman has input on which resources are offered to viewers after the episode airs and upon any follow-up programming as well.

 Today and tomorrow, January 30 – 31

    • ABC needs to hear a big “thank you” from our community
    • Ask that the National Autism Association ( and other advocacy organizations be included with resources following the show.  They are going to provide the CDC’s website -- parents exposed to this topic for the first time need alternate resources that can help their children
    • Ask for a follow-up to the show on ABC’s Nightline, including experts on recovering children through autism medical treatments
    • Please tell them about your family and why the vaccine-injury story line is important to you

There’s not much time, so please give ABC a call ASAP and let them know the significance of addressing the vaccine/autism connection through “Eli Stone.”

Together, we can make a difference.

Greetings All

You may have noticed a flood of research reports claiming that there is no connection between autism and childhood immunizations, sine the Eli Stone documentary on ABC.

Well, don't believe any of it. Thimerosal casuses autism and there is plenty of proof. We are being lied to by the big three. The government, Big Pharma and the Insurance industry. Period

Michael Wagnitz: Don't rule out mercury as a factor in autism

Letter to the editor  —  2/07/2008 10:32 am

Dear Editor: Amazing what a silly television show can do to get the attention of the mainstream medical community.

Despite letters bordering on hysteria from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association and the March of Dimes, ABC went ahead with the show "Eli Stone." The first episode was about a case where the jury awarded a family compensation for a vaccine ingredient (thimerosal, 50 percent organic mercury) linked to their child's autism.

Because of this show we have now seen over 1,000 headlines that say "Once and for all, mercury does not cause autism." Who says it does?

The studies I read are saying that mercury is a neurotoxin and causes/exacerbates neuroinflammatory disease. There are now 11 published papers that define the underlying medical condition of autism as neuroinflammatory disease.

The most in-depth paper, "Neuroglial activation and neuroinflammation in the brain of patients with autism," was done at Johns Hopkins University. It was done by analyzing brain tissue of deceased autistic patients.

One might think the most logical question would be: What is causing the neuroinflammation? If you go to the most popular health search engine and type in "mercury and inflammation," you will get 156 published papers to review. Many of these papers explain the role of mercury and activation of microglial cells in the brain. In a paper published in the Journal of Neuroinflamation, "Microglia and neuroinflamation: a pathological perspective," the authors define activation of microglial cells as being synonymous with neuroinflammatory disease.

We now know that primates exposed to ethyl mercury via vaccines retain twice as much inorganic mercury in their brains as primates exposed to equal doses of methyl mercury. These primates were exposed to mercury levels at a rate equal to what U.S. children received via standard childhood vaccines in 1991-2003.

Why has research in this area been stopped? Maybe someone from the National Institutes of Health or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention can answer this question. They seem to have billions to waste on chasing that elusive, spontaneous, mutating autism gene.

Greetings All

My good friend Gerri has posted a very interesting new topic in a new thread here. It is about post traumatic stress disorder. Her friend Brian has even written a book about it. It is a wonderful exploration into the effects of stress on the human mind. Please visit gerri's new thread and offer your comments and support.

Greetings All

Finally, some good news for the victims of autism. The federal autism court has ruled that there is a link between thimerosal in childhood vaccines and autism. This is what we have been fighting for and now the door is finally open.

With Blessings and Hope

Government Concedes Vaccine-Autism Case in Federal Court - Now What?

By David Kirby
Posted February 25, 2008 | 12:42 PM (EST)

After years of insisting there is no evidence to link vaccines with the onset of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), the US government has quietly conceded a vaccine-autism case in the Court of Federal Claims.

The unprecedented concession was filed on November 9, and sealed to protect the plaintiff's identify. It was obtained through individuals unrelated to the case.

The claim, one of 4,900 autism cases currently pending in Federal "Vaccine Court," was conceded by US Assistant Attorney General Peter Keisler and other Justice Department officials, on behalf of the Department of Health and Human Services, the "defendant" in all Vaccine Court cases.

The child's claim against the government -- that mercury-containing vaccines were the cause of her autism -- was supposed to be one of three "test cases" for the thimerosal-autism theory currently under consideration by a three-member panel of Special Masters, the presiding justices in Federal Claims Court.

Keisler wrote that medical personnel at the HHS Division of Vaccine Injury Compensation (DVIC) had reviewed the case and "concluded that compensation is appropriate."

The doctors conceded that the child was healthy and developing normally until her 18-month well-baby visit, when she received vaccinations against nine different diseases all at once (two contained thimerosal).

Days later, the girl began spiraling downward into a cascade of illnesses and setbacks that, within months, presented as symptoms of autism, including: No response to verbal direction; loss of language skills; no eye contact; loss of "relatedness;" insomnia; incessant screaming; arching; and "watching the florescent lights repeatedly during examination."

Seven months after vaccination, the patient was diagnosed by Dr. Andrew Zimmerman, a leading neurologist at the Kennedy Krieger Children's Hospital Neurology Clinic, with "regressive encephalopathy (brain disease) with features consistent with autistic spectrum disorder, following normal development." The girl also met the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) official criteria for autism.

In its written concession, the government said the child had a pre-existing mitochondrial disorder that was "aggravated" by her shots, and which ultimately resulted in an ASD diagnosis.

"The vaccinations received on July 19, 2000, significantly aggravated an underlying mitochondrial disorder," the concession says, "which predisposed her to deficits in cellular energy metabolism, and manifested as a regressive encephalopathy with features of ASD."
