Our Woman of Courage this week is loved by all.  In everything, she puts others first. She is the first to come to the aid of someone in need.  This lady is responsible for starting various prayer groups in the community.  She is always happy and chipper.  Yet, many do not know of the heartbreaks that she has undergone and how she has gone on in spite of them.  This is what makes her a Woman of Courage.

If she is not your friend, please send her an invitation.  You will find her to be the best friend ever!

I introduce to you..........

Carla Cash

I was born in a small town like the song and had a good childhood. I was the middle child and shy.

I also had a good sense of humor and believed in having fun. As far as I remember I wasn't much trouble to my parents but felt inferior to my older sister and younger brother. They seemed to be more
intelligent than I was but now I know that wasn't true. They just had strengths in different areas.

My youngest brother was born 13 years after I was so there was  no sibling rivalry there!

I graduated from high school then went on to college. After changing majors a couple of times, I graduated in Special Education. I believe that God got me through that, my grades were much higher the last two years of school.

I got married 3 months after graduating and married an abusive alcoholic. Of course I didn't know that, he said his drinking was not  behind him. We did have arguements and he started hitting me once in awhile after we had our first son. I did leave him once and was gone along time but returned home again.  I maintained my faith in God but we didn't see eye to eye on our beliefs so that caused a conflict.

After my third child was born my husband got a DUI and then I realized that he had not quit drinking.  Things went down hill after that with more abuse. Mostly it was verbal but he did hit me sometimes and sometimes he took it out on the children. I had 4 boys and a girl.  That really upset me but he would threaten my life if  I talked about leaving him. We ended up moving to Colorado and I ended up coming back home with the children and without him.

I married after our divorce only to repeat the abusive cycle. I thought that husband would protect me from the first one and give me moral support but I was very wrong.

Often abused women repeat the cycle but I was ignorant of that at the time.

Although I experienced no abuse as a child. whatever self-esteem I had disappeard and I had no confidence in myself.

Anyway I left my second marriage and my children with a guardian that abused them.  Welfare removed them from that environment but I never regained custody of the children under 18.

I finally learned that I don't have to be used and abused. I lost custody of the children which was really hard to go through but somehow I survived. It affected all of our lives but I pray every day that they will turn out all right and live full productive lives.

I am still good -hearted,but more careful about relationships. I'm in a good one now and I'm sure it will last.

I love singing and playing music in the church.

I also  sing at a local  nursing home and help at another as a volunteer.

I didn't have a career until the early 90's and have mostly been a caregiver to the mentally challenged and elderly. That doesn't pay well but somehow I've managed. I moved from state-to-state for awhile but now I'm settled back in Indiana.  Now I am tutoring part time, which is rewarding and pays alot better. I also work various businesses online and am becoming more successful through trial and error and learning who to work with.  I am still a home health
aid too, so I stay very busy to say the least!

I hope that by hearing my story others will avoid abuse and know that they can conquer any difficulty. If someone says they will change it's possible they might but be very careful about staying in a relationship that involves a person that likes to control you.

Thanks,
Carla

Carla, you are a blessing to everyone you come in contact with.  You are immeasurably loved by all.

God Bless You

I thank the team and God for this forum.

Carla,

How many of us knew your story?

I cry at the pain and distress caused in abusive relationships. None of us is perfect and we are all guilty of hurting those close to us but deliberate selfish bullying is inexcuseable.

Carla, I really pray that your children will know the real Carla and the regard that many have for you here.

Bridges are hard to build but are necessary. Well done that your focus on life is now so real and laudable.

God rewards those who make the effort to lead good lives and we all know that is your aim.

Roger

Carla, your story is so touching. Spousal abuse is so devastating to the entire family. The verbal put downs can be even more debilitating. I am glad that you have found the courage to move on, as it is not easy. I hope you get to see your children and that they understand what happened to you. May God bless you and keep his hand upon you.
