Yes I was very young at the time; and as I was trying to get across, it was a weird place to be in the cross hairs of a changing era-you don't know at the time what is important to pay attention to around you.
It was easy to remember what the Kings were doing because they were in our living rooms every day by way of Jet magazine which came to the house weekly and Ebony magazine which came monthly.
So while they and many other Black leaders whose names may not be well known-only showed up periodically when something big enough to rate national coverage in main stream america-they were household topics in most Black communities.
In this context, it almost seems like we are talking about Africans communicating across vast mountains and jungles with the beating of drums.
Information travels, whether by drumbeat, folklore or whispers.
