 Christmas Memories

There's nothing like Christmas
And woods deep in snow
To make us remember
Special feelings long ago.

Down life's weary highway,
Years pass rapid file,
But deep in us all
There's still a small child.

The same wide-eyed wonder
Comes over us when,
Those gray skies lose snowflakes
That drift in the wind.

Smoke curls from the chimneys,
A frosty windowpane,
And our dear thoughts return
And our joys still remain.

The tinkling of sleigh bells
Across a still night,
And a warm, toasty hearth
Whose embers burn bright.

A bright colored afghan
Thrown over the chair,
Green holly entwined
Down the length of a stair.

The candlelit church
Whose golden bells tell
Precious stories each heart
Still remember so well.

Oh, there's nothing like Christmas
And woods deep in snow
To make us remember
That dear long ago.

Hello Phil,

The poem is just lovely and reading it brought back a lot of memories of watching the snow with Dad.

I will be leaving Saturday if the weather holds out to spend the holidays with mom, my son, granddaughters and my new babies.  I can hardly wait to get there.

Yes, I will be sure to drive safely.  Hope the snow and ice waits till after my visit.  Will talk with you on my return.
