PHILOXENIA and Thanksgiving

Hello Benton!

Thank you very much for this very clear comment. Of course I respect American tradition and culture. Thanksgiving celebration and event is a nice gesture and action. In my tradition we have the Zeus Xenius (Hospitality of Zeus) to foreigners and strangers.

We do not celebrate thanksgiving in Greece at a special day but we live with it every day.

Have a nice weekend
Georgios

Hi Georgios,

Thank you for all the information on the history of the Horn of Plenty, and also thanks for the beautiful nude ladies by Rubens!

I wanted to add that America is not the land of high crime and decadence, our friend Benton needs to look in other directions.  For the past 6 years, New York City has enjoyed it's lowest crime rate since more than 40 years ago.  There are many places in USA that have low crime rates, here in west Michigan there isn't much crime.  There are still lots of people who attend church or worship services on a regular basis all across America.  Our country now also has it's highest level of pet ownership ever.  People who love cats and dogs that much can't possibly be the root of high crime and decadence!

Happy November!  Thanks for all your hard work and details!  The details are what makes the difference between mediocrity and excellence!

Hello Georgios,

I enjoyed reading about the Horn of Plenty.

Thanksgiving as you said does not necessarily have to be a one day celebration. Thanksgiving, helping others and hospitality to all on a daily basis is and should be what we all strive to "give".

People tend to recognize the word Thanksgiving as a terminology (one word) but forget that it's made up from 2 words: Thanks & Giving.  So , we can be thankful for all we have and give each and every day.

All the best & Shalom,

Peter
