I think making friends online is easier than making friends in real life, maybe that's just my personal experience.

Advertising in the ad forums may not bring you tons of traffic, but of course you can't post ads in non-advertising forums, so the thing to do is just post in keeping with the forum topics, while not advertising, and let your signature file be seen dozens of times daily by hundreds of people, that's how it works.

I was never really gone, I just spent some time wondering if my time spent posting in forums is time well-spent or time wasted.  I was a "member" of this community for 2 years before I ever started posting, or put up my photo, or accepted any friends invitations, between Feb 2004 to Feb 2006, I was not active here.  We don't miss the people we've never met.  Getting accustomed to someone is a luxury, like a personal wealth, then when it's gone, we notice the absence.  For my first 2 years of non-active communityship, I figured this was just a pile of people, most of the time I still have that sinking feeling, it's a pile of people.
