Wow, Nick- you have made my clumsy efforts sound so elegant here:) I felt a little presumtious calling my scattered offerings a "garden"- but despite my ignorance - it is becoming one on its own.
The debris was from the space where the trash collectors kept leaving the broken up rocks which subsequently was becoming the garbage drop-off spot. I basically started moving rocks and dirt from one place to another, then they started making shapes of themselves-then I started to stick a few plants into the ground and challenge them to grow as I certainly couldn't help them-then someone rescued a few lovely green things from a flooded yard and stuck them in the ground-then I had to keep the predatory weeds and vines away from them-then I started to notice people passing by were starting to compliment me on my "garden"!
So now instead of saying-"I don't 'do' dirt-I can hardly wait to get covered by the stuff.
Every morning I go out to encourage my girls-I have no idea what their names are, I know the marigolds and the coleus-the rest are just the pink princess and whatever I think to call them. I have a table that holds "Rusty stuff I found in the yard".
Having no money precludes buying more than a little potting soil, weed killer and bug spray. I stared off digging in the dirt with a long handled kitchen spoon so I have upgraded to a few tools-so I'm getting there.
Since the city would not let me sell anything I put the inspirational sayings we spoke about on some slates I found and placed 2 of them where they can be read by passers by-One says "Beleive in Yourself" and the other "There is a Power Within You".
The rest in in my head and hopefully will find their way out there one day.
Thank you for your encouragement-you awakened my awareness with your wonderful pictures you send every day.
Thank you Sis, Marilyn.
