Hello Friends
I see that in our most recent discussions , much blame is being placed on the internet, computers and television, for our children's social demise. AgAIN, i AM SEEING SOMEThING VERY DIFFERENT. Again, I am seeing blame being placed in places other than with the parents. I believe it is up to the parents to control and limit their children's access to such distractions from reality. The parents have the responsibility to see that their children get a proper amount of physical activity, education, religion and general balance in their lives.
I see the internet as being the greatest opportunity to improve the lives of our children that has ever been. Never, before the internet, did we have such a wonderful opportunity to share our beliefs and cultures with so many people from all over the world. Just by observing the names of some of the members of this forum we can see that we are communicating with people whom we would never have met had it not been for the internet. The cross section of people here is proof of the fact that we are learning things, every day, that we would have never known without the internet.
Until now, I could have only imagined what it would have been like to grow up in a communist controlled country. To be imprisoned for ones beliefs such as Branka has been. Until now, Branka could only imagine what it would be like to be able to grow up in a free world. Now, we have the ability to share knowledge and cultures in a way that can truly benefit all of mankind. This newfound ability to communicate with the whole world has opened doors that would have remained closed forever had it not been for the internet. I would have lived my entire life without ever having even heard of the name Branka let alone actually get to know and love someone with that name.
The internet is like placing a mixed bowl of candy and vegetables in front of a child. The child will surely choose the sweet over the nutritious, if the parent isn't there to guide and nurture them. It is up to us, as parents, to separate the good from the bad and then decide how much of each our children should be exposed to. Then, if we have done our job properly, our children will be able to do the same for their children.
Baby Kaleb, we send you our love, our prayers and our healing light.
May a smile follow you to sleep each night,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
and be there waiting,,, when you awaken.
Sincerly, Bill Vanderbilt
