Strange you should choose this subject today Larry!
We were talking about an 83 year old friend of ours last night. He recently had a very serious cold and chest infection. When they x-rayed him they found a shadow on his lungs, but he is still waiting for a further appointment about it.
He was so ill with the cold that he couldn't smoke and still hasn't smoked for two months. He now says he can actually walk better and further than he has been able to even before the cold and hadn't realised how much smoking was making him ill.
Sad thing in contradiction though was another friend from the same town who never smoked, caught the same cold that was going round. His turned to pneumonia and he passed away within two weeks. He was almost twenty years younger than the friend who smoked.
Other strange point to this is, people who give up smoking put weight on. Then the fat is another health risk by clogging arteries etc. I would like to know how many minutes of life you can knock off for each ounce of fat gained.
Where do all these scientists get their facts?
