AaaaaaaW  Nick,

you are lookin at one 'keeper friend' !!! Yeh, caring for my dad at 88, and my house filled with antique things....gosh its soooo hard to let go...but then thats what life's all about, looking back on the sweet memories attatched to them and drawing strength from it when you are lonely, and glad you had shared moments.:-)

Beautifully put  Nick, couldn't be told more true.

Thank you, you always know how to tug at  my heart strings dont you !!

Hi Nick,

Yes - the people who have had the least, often appreciate the most.  I rememberwhen little we used to sit at the table with a jam jar in one hand and a knife in the other, a single slice of bread and have to rescue the last remaining half teaspoon of jam from the sides of the jar, spread it on half the bread and fold it for a sandwich, just to get a snack when there was nothing else in the cupboards.  If the crust had gone green and we were allowed to cut it off, it was an extra treat.

I don't ever recall going to fashion shops, but going through carrier bags of clothes handed down from older cousins.  Many Teenagers these days would despise the idea and even expect their favourite brand labels or they won't be seen in public.

I recall one Christmas/New Year when our children were very young, we didn't have enough electric credit to heat the house.  The dining table went into the living room.  The sofa went into the kitchen.  Old Blankets went over the doors.  The coal fire was lit and we stayed in the kitchen for a week.  Over night we put the camp beds in the kitchen too for ourselved and the kids shared the sofa.  By the sunday we had just enough credit to cook a roast dinner which was a real treat after microwave food all week.  If we boiled the kettle we filled the flasks.  We wrapped up most winters, not turning the heating up till necessary and we still put jumpers on now rather than heat the house as a luxury.

It is such a shame that today's younger generation look upon it as stingy rather than efficient.  They think of them selves before the environment and what was once classed as luxury is now expectation.

I like luxury, but it's amazing how when you treat life and every little thing around you with the respect it deserves, it makes it very easy to turn the simplest of treats like a whole jam sadwich in fresh bread, into an enjoyable moment of retreat.

Thanks for sharing with us Nick,

Best Wishes
Kay

P.S. Thank you for the beautiful picture of the Blue Swan you placed in my forum.
