Hi Nick,

I am still crying!!  I love this poem and so appropos .  It's prom time, graduation time and the time of year when teenagers especially are lured into thinkg that they are invincible.

It's a GREAT topic and a message that cannot be repeated too many times.

Thanks and many blessings, my friend.

Nick, this is a beautifully done story about drinking and driving.  I have had many friends pass away due to either drinking and driving, or getting hit by drunk drivers.  This was back in my high school days.  Although the laws have become much more stringent here in the U.S. the epidemic still occurs.  Thank you for making us more aware of this tragic issue.  If we could just take the keys away from someone who is drinking, then we would save many lives.  Our city has implemented free taxi rides home from bars which has worked well.  If only each town or city was to do this practice, then perhaps drinking and driving will drop as my city has.

:) Elise

Me too Luella, I cry.
More than three decades of being a parent and the tension in your spine never goes away knowing there are people out there who just don't care or think.
My wish is that somehow there will be enough "designated drivers" out there in bigger and bigger numbers until kids can get back to just having fun - unimpaired.

My Dear Jenny!

Please do not let society look to someone else to do the work that all parents can get involved in! Up here we have block captains that watch for suspicious drivers and take down their license numbers and if we see a driver swerving all over the road then there is a special number you can phone on the cell and the police will be there in seconds. Don't expect somebody else to do this most important work when with a little effort you can make your place safer.

Oh Nick,

I wish it was that simple.  Do you know what it is like to see young adults in their early twenties speed past you in their souped up cars and pray that they meet noone on route home.

We can teach our own youngsters, but what do you do when they pour into town at weekends and put everyone at risk.  Regrettably there are no block captains here.  You can try to take the keys from a drunk you know - it is hard when you dont and the police arent there - or they are already on the road.

I am a fervent supporter of the non drinking and driving campaigns - there is no excuse - I dont leave it to society - you misunderstood there.  I am commenting that I watch a lot of people watching and waiting for other people to do something - i couldn't agree with you more.

Love
Jenny
