Both were civil rights activists in the 60's with slight philosophical differences on how to achieve equality. Malcolm X sought to convert African Americans to Islamic beliefs. He was disillusioned by the NOI (Nation of Islam) and started his own organization. One of his best known quotes was "by any means necessary" referring on how to affect change. One solution considered was for African Americans to establish their own sovereign state since co-existence was not ideal. Martin luther King Jr. was a christian and sought change through peaceful demonstrations Neither fomented riots or anarchy but both were under constant surveillance by the FBI and other government agencies.
