Marilyn

You make a very important point. You choose your attitude what ever that might be and you are responsible for that attitude.  Choosing to be positive, inviting, open, caring does change the enegry in a room or situation.

Just today we had a situation at work where a man came in and took of his shoes and his pants and decided to take a sleep on one of our sofas in an area open to the public. Security freaked out and call for some back up and basically didn't want to go near the guy and they thought they were going to have a problem.

I came out to be there incase and decided I could take action to resolve the situation. The man was obviously disoriented and probably drunk. I just said hello to him and asked him politely if he could put on his pants and his shoes. When he got up to do that I thank him for doing that. We manage to get his wife's phone # from him and call his wife.

Then I told him to come with me, I had a place where he could sit quietly and wait for his wife. He followed me to where I wanted him to sit, and once again I thanked him to doing that.

At no time did he appear to be a threat. I just thought calmly and maintained a respectful attitude to the man. Rather than get antagonistic with him, I thanked him for doing what I asked.

I was quite surprised at the result as was those standing around who expected some sort of struggle.

The other thing I did and have been learning to do in my self development program is not to judge cause judgement can also lead you down the wrong path.

Thanks for the post,

Wonderful post Marilyn, as always.

Nick reminds me of a scene that replays in my mind at the odd hour of the night. I was living in Los Angeles when a report came on the local news that a 54 year old woman had been shot and killed by police officers who thought she was brandishing a screw driver while "stealing" a shopping basket from Ralph's parking lot.

Had just one of those young officers been abke to think calmly, that woman would be 58 years old now, same as me.

Thinking before acting is always important.

Hi Marilyn,

If you look under a rock, chances are you will find something nasty. If you look to the sky, chances are you will see stars.

   Always go for the positive.

Thanks, my friend.
