Hello Marilyn,
I have monitored but had no time until now to contribute to this forum.
That was a great posting and some really interesting and understanding replies.
Not wishing to repeat myself but finding it impossible if I am to make my point.
I have stated here before that I am one of the luckiest people on this planet.
To forgive is as easy as falling off a log for me.
That doesn't mean to say that I understand the reason or motive of somebody's actions when they act cruel or act in an evil way, just that the things I have done in my life that I'm not proud of were done, for, what to me was a perfectly reasonable or understandable reason. Only afterwards do I start to repent or question my decisions.
There are very few really evil people on this planet and even those who are have usually a good if not acceptable reason. This doesnt mean that we have to accept this or that behaviour but, that we owe it to them and ourselves to try and understand.
Civilised society can only build upon experience, fairness and justice, but at the end of all of this we just need to understand those that dont fit the mould.
My statement here would be:
'To understand the action of others may be difficult, but, we owe it to them if, we in turn, seek to be understood.'
We are all unique human beings and we should aim to be the best we can be, but, when we fall short of our own standards we should be prepared to forgive.
Forgive yourself and allow yourself to understand others.
Roger
