Who's in charge here?
10/27/2008 5:53:40 PM

No Matter How Many Financial Institutions Fail,

No Matter How Much Prices Go Up,

No Matter Who Wins the Election:

1.     The Bible will still have all the answers.
2.     Prayer will still work.
3.     The Holy Spirit will still move.
4.     God will still inhabit the praises of His people.
5.     There will still be God-anointed preaching.
6.     There will still be singing of praise to God.
7.     God will still pour out blessings upon His people.
8.     There will still be room at the Cross.
9.     Jesus will still love you.
10.    Jesus will still save the lost when they come to Him.

ISN'T IT GREAT TO KNOW WHO IS REALLY IN CONTROL?

Put everything in God's hand and eventually you will see God's hand in everything!

Thanksgiving, a story of persistence
11/25/2008 9:51:18 PM
Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. —Philippians 3:12-14

Here is a part of the Thanksgiving story you may not know. The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in October of 1621. Not until October of 1777 did all 13 colonies celebrate Thanksgiving altogether, for the first time.  At one point, our first president, George Washington, proclaimed a National Day of Thanksgiving, but conflict and difficulties among the colonies put an end to the observance.

It was a magazine editor by the name of Sarah Josepha Hale whose work led to the celebration of the Thanksgiving known today. Hale wrote letters to governors and presidents, as well as  editorials in magazines, books and newspapers, promoting the observance of Thanksgiving.  In 1863, after 40 years of letter writing and campaigning (that’s not a typo, she really wrote letters for 40 years), Sarah Hale’s persistence paid off and President Lincoln proclaimed a National Day of Thanksgiving. Since then, every president has supported Thanksgiving. Forty years of dedication, persistence and passion, all to make sure that this country would celebrate a National Day of Thanksgiving each year. Impressive.

We can learn from Hale’s perseverance. It took her 40 years to accomplish what she set out to do. Just like her story, the Christian faith is often described as a marathon, not a sprint. Each day of our life is another day to choose between right and wrong, to help someone in need, to read our Bible, to pray, to…you fill in the blank.  As Paul reminds us in Philippians 3:12-14, Christians are called to persevere, to press on. Sometimes it can feel like an unrewarding task. It is hard, but important, to look to God for the BIGGER plan. What if Hale had chosen to give up after one year or ten years? Her goal would have been left unfinished. Press on towards the call of Christ! Endure! But be forewarned, just like Sara Josepha Hale, it may take 40 years to see the fruit of your labor!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you all.

Are you Jesus?
11/26/2008 1:24:51 AM

A few years ago, a group of salesmen went to a regional sales convention in Chicago. They had assured their wives that they would be home in plenty of time for Friday night's dinner.

In their rush at the airport, with tickets and briefcases, one of these salesmen inadvertently kicked over a table which held a display of apples. Apples flew everywhere.

Without stopping or looking back, they all managed to reach the plane in time for their nearly missed boarding.

ALL BUT ONE !!!

He paused, took a deep breath, got in touch with his feelings, and experienced a twinge of compassion for the girl whose apple stand had been overturned.

He told his buddies to go on without him, waved good-bye, told one of them to call his wife when they arrived at their destination and explain his taking a later flight.

Then he returned to the terminal where the apples were all over the terminal floor.  He was glad he did.

The 16 year old girl was totally blind! She was softly crying, tears running down her cheeks in frustration, and at the same time helplessly groping for her spilled produce as the crowd swirled about her, no one stopping and no one to care for her plight.

The salesman knelt on the floor with her, gathered up the apples, put them back on the table and helped organize her display. As he did this, he noticed that many of them had become battered and bruised; these he set aside in another basket.

When he had finished, he pulled out his wallet and said to the girl, 'Here, please take this $40 for the damage we did. Are you okay?'

She nodded through her tears. He continued on with, 'I hope we didn't spoil your day too badly.'

As the salesman started to walk away, the bewildered blind girl called out to him, 'Mister....' He paused and turned to look back into those blind eyes . She continued, 'Are you Jesus?'

He stopped in mid-stride, and he wondered. Then slowly he made his way to catch the later flight with that question burning and bouncing about in his soul: 'Are you Jesus?'

Do people mistake you for Jesus? That's our destiny, is it not?

To be so much like Jesus that people cannot tell the
difference as we live and interact with a world that is blind to His love, life and grace.

If we claim to know Him, we should live, walk and act as He would. Knowing Him is more than simply quoting Scripture and going to church. It's actually living the Word as life unfolds day to day.

You are the apple of His eye even though we, too, have been bruised by a fall.

He stopped what He was doing and picked you and me up on a hill called Calvary and paid in full for our damaged fruit.

GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS AND KEEP ON LOVING AND TAKING CARE OF EACH OTHER

The price of Children
12/5/2008 7:14:23 PM
The price of Children. This is just too good not to pass on to all. Something absolutely positive for a change. I have repeatedly seen the breakdown of the cost of raising a child, but this is the first time I have seen the rewards listed this way. It's nice. The government recently calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to 18 and came up with $160,140 for a middle income family. Talk about sticker shock! That doesn't even touch college tuition.  But $160,140 isn't so bad if you break it down. It  translates into: $8,896.66 a year,  $741.38 a month, or $171.08 a week.  That's a mere $24.24 a day!  Just over a dollar an hour. Still, you might think the best financial advice is don't have children if you want to  be "rich".

Actually, it is just the opposite. What do you get for your $160,140? Naming rights. First, middle, and last!  Glimpses of God every day.  Giggles under the covers every night.  More love than your heart can hold. Butterfly kisses and Velcro hugs.  Endless wonder over  rocks, ants, clouds, and warm cookies. A hand to hold, usually covered with jelly or chocolate.
A partner for blowing bubbles & flying kites.  Someone to laugh yourself  silly with, no matter what the boss said or how your stocks performed that day! For $160,140, you never have to grow up.  You get to:  finger-paint,  carve pumpkins, play hide-and-seek, catch lightning bugs, and never stop believing in Santa Claus. You have an excuse to:  keep reading the Adventures of Piglet and Pooh,  watching Saturday morning cartoons,  going to Disney movies, and wishing on stars.  You get to frame rainbows, hearts, and flowers under refrigerator magnets and collect spray painted noodle wreaths for Christmas, hand prints set in clay for Mother's Day, and cards with backward letters for Father's Day. For $160,140, there is no greater bang for your buck. You get to be a hero just for:  retrieving a Frisbee off the garage roof, taking the training wheels off a bike, removing a splinter, filling a wading pool, coaxing a wad of gum out of bangs, and coaching a baseball team that never wins but always gets treated to ice cream regardless. You get a front row seat to history to witness the:  first step, first word, first bra, first date, and first time behind the wheel. You get to be immortal. You get another branch added to your family tree, and if you're lucky, a long list of limbs in your obituary called grandchildren and great grandchildren. You get an education in psychology, nursing, criminal justice, communications, and human sexuality that no college can match. In the eyes of a child, you rank right up there under God. You have all the power to heal a boo-boo, scare away the monsters under the bed, patch a broken heart, police a slumber party, ground them forever, and love them without limits, So one day they will like you, love without counting the cost.
That is quite a deal for the price!!!!!!!
Love & enjoy your children & grandchildren & great-grandchildren .
