Hello everyone, I think we have gathered enough information to consider what changes will help our community. Thank you for taking time away from your work to contribute here. One would recognize that this community is important to you as you conveyed your positive comments. Now we will divide the issues into what we can do and only the administration can do to maintain a healthy and happy community here at Adlandpro. If we value Adlandpro we will work together, putting aside personal differences, seeking improvement, and look for ways to make a difference that attracts and maintains the membership. Bogdan, (1) The first question is "Can we limit the number of forums and thread notices from each person daily? Would it come in the form of a suggestion or a rule? Posting threads and forums without limit is one of things people like about Adlandpro. Would this stiffle creativity and activity? Would people just skirt around it. (2) Please explain your participation in keeping this a safe, friendly, well run business community. Could anything further be done about breaking of rules in forums/threads and posting of comments. Content of course is personal preferrence so how much control do you take over this issue. (3) Explain your perception of why people come here and why they stay. What are the strengths of Adlandpro and why does it work for those who stay. ******************************************************* POSTING IS NOT CLOSED ON THE DISSCUSSION HERE SO OTHERS MAY STILL POST COMMENTS

Hi, Mary, How many emails do I want to receive? Currently I receive about 1,500 a day into 7 in boxes. Fortunately for me, email subject lines seem to tax the ingenuity of most senders so I can zip through and delete over 80% without having to worry about deleting something of value. Limit the number of forums or posts? If all the forum posts and threads that were nothing but adverts were outlawed, this would not actually be an issue. Keeping a record of active posters. Would this not be better done by recording the total of posts rather than the total number of forums to which a member makes a post? Somebody who posts more than one time to a forum, thereby providing an active and continuing participation (not to mention keeping the forum alive) receives the same recognition as someone who posts only once to say "Ooh lovely". If an active poster is going to be rewarded (for want of a better word) for supporting a discussion and the author of a forum, surely it is the degree of support that needs to be acknowledged? Adland is a very important and integral part of my internet life but it has had to take a back seat in most areas because of what I perceive as problems. Much of my posting has been fascilitated by the good will of the medical staff who have been delighted to relieve the boredom of keeping the old coot going by practising their English by accepting dictation. Adland has been instrumental in showing them ways to improve and stream-line some of the services they offer - so other than internet marketers gain from it.

Hi Mary,
I know you said we have enough, but Eva hit on my #1 pet peeve-and I had forgotten about it.
I really do resent the begging for money. There is just no other word for it, especially when the response is low to open mail and be berated for not having given.
It is just rude.

Hi Mary,

Thanks for starting this discussion.

As I have written to you in my private message I believe that we can do more by attempting to answer the question why people are not staying as opposed to asking question why people are leaving.

I would like to start this discussion once this one is finished. For those who are wondering what is the difference in stating the question this way here is a short explanation.

We have lots of new members who after signing up do nothing. This is much larger number than people who stayed here for a while and then left. The first group has never had the chance to see what they were missing.

Now to the question.

I have run some statistics and here are the numbers.

In last two weeks 206 people started their own threads in forums.
16 members have sent 79% of total mailings due to starting new threads.

Out of those 16, 5 were PowerMembers.

Seven top members, produced 60% of mailings.

As you all know each of you have the ability to block other member from sending messages to you without removing them from your friends list.
You can either not accept the invitation to join the forum in the first place. If you have already accepted it, you can go to your My Forum section and perform various actions in reference to those forum which you have either accepted or are invited only. Keep in mind that you can be invited only once to each new forum and that free members can only start one forum.

In addition you have various ways to block messages on different levels from your Personal Section.

1. You can stop all communication.
2. You can stop direct messages only.
3. You can stop community bulletin messages only.

As a paid members you can quietly block any messages from your friends by using so called Friend Forum Mute function. Your friend will never know that he/she is turned off from sending you anything.

In addition in every message sent to you, you have an option to remove yourself from the forum which you might find to be excessive or of no interests.

Why would we need to put restrictions on the system in terms of limiting mailings where 60% of messages came from just 7 people and several of them were PowerMembers. The main reason why those top 7 people have such large participation in the total number of mailing is that they have large number of friends and their forums are popular. If their forums were not popular, they would probably lost most of their friends over the time.  I admit that there are two or three individuals in the entire pack which are blasting indiscriminate messages, but I believe that this is only matter of time. (I had personal discussion with some of them already) Those who are subjected to receiving those messages, will eventually click delete or remove button and stop this friend from contacting them. Being part of the community will eventually reveal true nature of those individuals and make them being here uncomfortable if they cross the boundaries continually.

Their statistics also show how many people are blocking them which is an indicator when accepting somebody's invitation to be their friend.

We could probably do better job in organizing good quality forums and make them first destination for newcomers.

Hi, Bogdan, Seven top members, produced 60% of mailings. What a horrifying statistic! We could probably do better job in organizing good quality forums and make them first destination for newcomers. I refer to my earlier point where newcomers (especially) will not be invited to a forum unless they are members of the friends list of the forum owner. Since I started to be more active, again, in the forums, I have received quite a lot of new requests to be friends (my old friends list was deleted) but, having looked at some of the forums that are available but which I am not able to post to, I do see that I will remain a second class member until I am a 'friend' of every member (especially those who use forums other than for advertising). As it stands, a newcomer could start the most fascinating and valuable forum but nobody would visit it because the newcomer knows nobody to invite - so it would die. I don't mind simply deleting personal messages and forum invitations that are nothing but blatant advertising - but why should I have to? We are, presumably, all grown ups and should be able to expect from others the behaviour that we, ourselves, exhibit. One aspect of Adland which has not been addressed yet is the value it represents to people like myself who have much to learn but do not know who to turn to for specific help. The forums give us all a great insight into the type of person a particular member might be and enable us to approach them in a more acceptable manner.
