Kathy,
An excellent posting.
I agree with much of what it says and don't really disagree with a few matters of which I have a slightly different approach.
It is my view that imagery is more powerful than affirmations however affirmations lend themselves to convenience. It is easy anytime to say an affirmation but (when driving for example ) imagery needs a little more attention.
In my practise I use NLP and believe that we can build an image of ourselves as we want to be. Then we work upon that image as being work in progress. We are becoming that person and we can see what we will see, hear what we will hear and feel what we will feel when we are that person. We become what we project.
It is a fact that we tend to believe the negative things about ourselves much more easily than the positive so we do need to be vigilant and ready to congratulate ourselves.
Another factor is that we build untrue strategies. Our mother may for example tell us one day when we were small ''you are just like your father always clumsy'' It may be that you just knocked over the cofee table during a game BUT most kids want to be like Dad so believe this statement for the rest of their lives when it was never true at all.
If we tell a child that they can do what ever they want if they apply their mind they rarely believe it. That is the way we are, BUT WE CAN CHANGE.
The world is on the edge of many catastrophies but at the same time we are on the verge of discovering what makes it all work and the powers that we had forgotten. Which do you believe?
Be positive and see the good in everthing. Life is just so much nicer that way.
