I used to listen to the Paul Harvey show at lunch time when I lived in Michigan. He had a way of saying "Good Day" that became his trademark.
I have done most of the things you mention. I always had to learn the hard way. I was so poor when I was a child I had to make everything. I found the parts in a junkyard to make myself a bicycle and mowed grass to earn the money for the tires.
I never let my big brother into my bed. I liked the beer, but got sick on it.
My daughter never had to go through the tough times It was hard for her to go through her first pms cramps. I understand what Paul meant.
That which does not kill us makes us stronger.
