Re: A poem: Our roads are different?

Hello Christina, Keith and Darlene

Sorry i didn't join you all here sooner but I never received a notification of this new thread. Well, i might have missed too but I don't think so. Actually it is better to post in an existing forum for several reasons. I have nearly 80 threads on two forums and it is very difficult to keep up with all of them. Also, if you post on a busy thread you will get more people responding. A lot of people don't open invitations to new forums because they expect it to be an ad. The most important reason though is because when there are people sharing and caring on one of my forums, I really want to be a part of it.

Christina, your poem is beautiful and I am honored that you chose this forum to post it on.

We all have some things in common I see. Depression has been a part of all of our lives and we are all recovering. I really beleive that people talking with other people about this is very theraputic. that is the whole reason I started this forum. I am very tired tonight and really have to get to bed so I can get up early in the morning but I will get back here and post more very soon. I hope that you are all still around and still want to talk. MAny blessings to you all and Merry Christmas.

Sincerly, Bill

I personally think that once we have a mental illness be it depression or something like panic attacks or infact any issue that leads to depression.

It is always there in the background as we who suffer from any type of mental illness need to always be aware of what we are feeling and learn to do what is best for us to deal with what is happening at the time.

There are triggers that can happen at anytime.

I went to mental health counselling for about 6 months and I was told that I do not need to come back anymore as I had dealt with my issues so well there was no need to see the counseller again.

However in saying that, things can trigger what is just an illness and we always need to have a plan in place to deal with the issue, it can be talking to a close friend, drawing a picture or writing a poem. Only the sufferer knows their plan.

I found the best thing for me was when I was told to self medicate, which I do still now and I take very little medication, but it`s there for when I need it.

It is a pity that many people have no idea how to help anybody with a mental illness or just plainly do not want to know about it stay out of the picture.

One thing that I do know is in 2003 when I spent 4.5 weeks in a mental health hospital. I met many wonderful people while I was in there and heard a lot of shocking stories from others who were in there being treated for various types of mental illness. I have managed to have contact since with some of them but sadly I have also heard that a few that were in there ended their lives, which is so very sad. I just hope and pray for those who did end their lives that they have found their peace.

Keith.

Hello Keith Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I don't get notifications anymore like I used to so I miss some now and then. I have 89 threads to watch so it gets a little hard to keep up with sometimes. What a coincidence that you would show up here and on Georgios' Telos thread too. LOL. I'll bet you are not surprised though. Yoiuyo are right in what you say about the triggers. No matter how well you are feeling on any given day, something could happen that might trigger another episode. It is very inportant to know and understand the signs and symptoms and also to watch very closely for them to occur. Always have someone to talk to or a place to go for immediate help if nessesary. As Georgios would say. Know Thyself. thanks for stopping by Keith. Best wishes to you my Friend.
