Western Diet-processed foods are high in fat, carbohydrates, and chemicals. rarely does a person eat 4 servings of fruit and 5 servings of vegetables in a day. according to the US Department of Agriculture: less than 10% of the population eat a diet that remotely resembles the food pyramid guide. During illness nutritional needs increase.1950 1 in 30 would get cancer Today 1 in 3 will get some form of cancer. University CA at Berkley concluded that 98% of the population is nutritionally deprived and 6 out of 10 leading causes of death are related to nutritional deficences including: -Heart Disease&Stroke -Diabetes -Cronic Liver Disease

Not being a medical student, nor doing much scientific research on supplemental use, I cannot give statistics.  Mine are bases solely on experience and developing good eating habits. There was a time when I ran to the medical doctor for every little ache and pain.  He finally discovered I was hypoglycemic.  That is when I really got into natural healing and herbal treatments. I went on a sugar-free diet for 2 years, learned to balance my protein intake and actually 'beat' my hypo problem.  My family at that time was a difficult problem, they refused to eat healthy but I did my best.  Now, my 2 grown sons have very nutritional diets.  Yet, in our fast paced world today and processed foods, or even on days when we don't eat right - it is a very good idea to take Supplements.

The major thing wrong with American diets is not taking time to prepare healthy meals.  Most of these meals can be prepared in the time it takes to drive to a restuarant and wait to be served, or stop by fast food places.  There is so much obesity in our country.  So many young girls around here are slim & trim when they graduate from HS or college, get married, have a baby and gain tons of weight!

Did not mean to write a thesis here, but YES, I believe in taking supplements to boost the immune system and make up for what we miss in our diets.  For some reason I have to take iron supplement because my body requires more than average.

Take your vitamins and have a great week!

It's funny, a lot of people think taking supplements will help with their overall general heath, but the fact is, that taking just any kind of supplements may not be doing anything at all.  Most supplements you buy, do not get absorbed into the body.  The crap you buy in walmart and pharmacies only have an absorbtion rate of 5%.  Be careful of what supplements you chose.  The ones I use, have an absorbtion rate of 98%.

Jackie,

I totally agree with you.  One trick you can do to make sure your supplement is okay, drop the tablet in a glass of warm water, if it does not dissolve within 5 minutes, it is not beneficial.

Thanks for bringing that important fact out.
