Hello Nick,

It is so sad to know there are such "happenings" hm....!
I remember about a year ago, I also got some invite to some poetry contest; as I'm not much a poet, as you may know LOL, I thought to pass the invite on to my dear friends here on Adland. That was the when I find out for the first time that there are people "playing" with these kind of things and making a toy out of other people talents and confidence! That is a real shame!

I'm glad you posted this for everyone to read; mostly for our talents, as we are lucky to have a few ;-)

With friendship,
Anamaria

Thanks for coming forward with this.  I have submitted poems to this company for years, even before they were Poetry.com.  I bought one book and like you state, my poem was so crammed up with others, who would ever read?  For years they hammered me with prospective awards, traveling to their huge conference in FL and reading my poetry in front of publishers, etc.  at MY expense of course.  I feel sure many people fall victim to that one.  Then I received an airmail enticing letter from Noble House in London.  I submitted my poem and ordered the book.  It never came. I started making enquiries and discovered exactly what you said about them, only addresses.  I did go so far as to write and threaten them, no reply.  Then, several months later there arrived a book in the mail.  It was nicely done and my poem was the very first one in it!  Wonder how that happened.  Anyways, at this point, I stopped submitting poetry to any of these publishers that 'as you say' make mega bucks off folks like us who want to see their poetry in print.  My suggestion is find a legitimate publisher who will not charge you to publish your own book if they believe they can sell it on the market.  Or, some small publisher who will print your own poetry book/booklet for a reasonable amount and you do the marketing.  Or, you might try as I do, publish your own, print it on a 'copyright-owned' background and have it framed for your decor or market them.  I am an artist and have designed background pictures for poets, selling rights to use for x number of years or selling outright.  I also publish small booklets with copyrighted illustrations for other writers.  Either do your own, have someone do it for you, get lucky and get published by a major publisher but please stay away from those poetry scams.

Keep Writing,

Nick,

Thanks for sharing this with us. I've heard nothing but bad things about poetry.com and luckily have stayed clear of it. Unfortunately it sounds like many people have been drawn into poetry.com's web of lies.

Everyone, please, please, please, thoroughly check out ANY company before becoming involved with them. Protect yourself!

Toodles,

Hi AnaMaria!

All I am asking is that #1, that this should be passed on to all members and #2, always remember that if you are good at ANYTHING, then YOU should get PAID and not be the one PAYING!
