If I were dropped out of a plane into the ocean ....

"If I were dropped out of a plane into the ocean and told the nearest land was 1,000 miles away, I’d still swim. And I’d despise the one who gave up." – Abraham Maslow, Psychologist

I don't know how to swim, but I'd still try. Because that's all life offers each of us, a chance, an opportunity, through effort. You never know what's over the horizon, someone in an airplane or boat might see me struggling to stay afloat and come over to lend a helping hand. Never just give up and don't let anyone who does, be your example. I believe...... The race does not belong to the swift, if he does not run, but the one who starts and stumbles and stay until it's done! Thanks for AdlandPro, Bogdan. Yvonne Finn

Boy that sure is true. You never know what is just over the horizon. And most of the time, things happen (seemingly in the nick of time) right when you need it most. Quote: The race does not belong to the swift, if he does not run, but the one who starts and stumbles and stay until it's done! I like the way this is stated. A very good one to remember. Nan

A frightnening prospect! Still, I guess that's what life is... a sudden drop into life and a sink or swim situation. No, I would not despise the one who gave up, I would try to help him along as much as I could, and if it was someone close to me, I might even go down along with them rather than give up. Silly me, eh? Amalia

Good Morning! Thanks, as usual, Bogdan :-) This quote makes me grateful that Mr. Maslow isn't MY shrink! He obviously knows absolutely nothing about spirituality... The FIRST thing I would have done, had I been able, would have been to latch on to the fool dropping me out of the plane and take him/her with me! Then there would have been TWO on this journey... IMHO - seriously, our World would be a better place if more folks could find a way to Trust in a Higher Power and never, never, despise anyone! Who am I to make the judgement that someone gave up? And who am I to propagate these feelings of anger, hatred, and prejudice towards my fellow man? WE are ALL in this thing called LIFE together! How many times have we heard similar stories that ended in miracles? We just had one here in South Carolina - two teens lost at sea for almost a week, but their parents didn't give up and miraculously, they lived and were found by a ship. It doesn't always happen that way sadly, but even then, a Higher Power had His Plan in place long ago and it was the way it was supposed to be. Maybe the answer is to swim. Perhaps the answer is to pray and Trust. Maybe we don't know the answer because we're not supposed to. Regardless, I doubt the answer, in Truth, is to go along your own self-serving way and abandon plus despise the one who you've "decided" - gave up without doing anything within your own humble, personal best abilities, to help those who can't help themselves. I'll come down from the pulpit now :-) Have a great day! And do something good for your fellow man today! Mark
