Hi Kathy,
Thank you for the invitation to your forum..
hmm could be a touchy subject eh!? *lol*
Well here goes..Personally, I am not a gambler I have had the odd flutter and I give myself an amount that I am willing to loose, the amount is in my budget and it would probably cost me the same amount should I go to a dinner and movie, or similar night out.
New Zealand motto is 'Rugby' (similar to football) 'Racing' (horse racing - yep our country is huge race fans and breed great thorough-breds) and 'beer' (say no more!)
I personally have not liked the amount of casino's being opened because it was encouraging people with a gambling problem easy access to gamble - One can go inside these casino's and be lost from time because there are no windows, no clocks - the inside is kept the same 24/7 to keep their patrons at the tables. These establishments give out free drinks - incourages anyone with a drinking problem!! There are other issues I have with casino's too long to go into.
My point, I do not agree with the establishment encouraging more spending at the tables than a person can really afford and giving out all the alcoholic drinks one can consume just to keep a person spending.
Some people have stayed far longer to the point that they are relieving their bladders where they sit because they are frightened to leave their winning table.. They stay on until they are broke, desolate, and inebriated. Then the casino's deny all responsibility (we are all adults and have free choice etc!!)
Where are the posters around the walls warning people that gambling can be adictive?
Like you see on the packets of cigarettes etc?
Why are casino's exempt from displaying these warnings??
The day that our sexual pleasure in the bedroom or inside my home come to the notice of law makers - there is going to be one heck of a fight on their hands...!!! *lol*
Kind regards
Amanda Martin-Shaver
