This week’s POTW is Superwoman Kay Reeve. Kay juggles responsibilities of Housewife, Mom, Vice President of WOSAT, Home Schooling, and Networking on a daily basis. She despite all this pressure manages to keep her sanity and warm demeanor. Kay is respected and admired by her friends here at AdlandPro. Congratulations Kay on being this week’s Person of the Week!

Dear Friends and Adlanders,
Firstly I would like to say how pleased I was when Clay won the votes and I was honoured to have support from enough friends to follow close behind for a while. I felt like a winner for being nominated, more than for coming second place and thank which ever anonymous friend - who knows how busy I already am - for nominating me. :-)
About me? I will try and break this down a little and have some fun - so here goes.....
Name: Kay Reeve
Origin: County of Kent - UK. Then moved to Lincolnshire aged nine but 18 months later we moved to Holkham Norfolk where my parents still live today. We have lived near Fakenham Norfolk for six years, where we have wonderful neighbours and a beautiful view across rolling fields.
Married: Yes for nearly 14 years and still very happy. We have been through some very rough times financially and emotionally but have learnt to compliment our differences, find things in common and to work as a team and a Family as well as still being friends. Denis spent 8 years as a lorry driver and was away from home a great deal before training to be a driving instructor. He has now been self employed for the last 3 years but it hasn't provided the security we hoped for although we do get more time together.
Children: Yes - Heidi age 13 who loves to play guitar, chat with her friends and read lots of educational books, and Matthew age 11 who loves his new trampoline and always tells people his family is the most important thing in his life. I have been teaching Matthew at home for the last two years - which is why I began looking for income online - then a month ago, Heidi realised just how much the school system was holding her back, despite her good reports, and asked for me to home educate her too. The home education has brought the family closer together and we enjoy chatting about many subjects over the dinner table - often an education for us all in the process.
School: I was an ordinary pupil at an ordinary high school with ordinarily average grades. Nothing spectacular but not a failure either. I missed a great deal of schooling due to being a chronic Asthma sufferer and having poor medication control. At the age of 12, I was given my first inhaler - it was like being given my life back at last. Medication has improved so much over the last 20 years that now I lead a normal life apart from not being able to enter any house with cats in and suffering hayfever during the crop's pollen season - next month!
I left school with two O'levels and later took another two at evening classes, one of which was my photography - my favourite passtime.
I had one teacher who seemed to see in me something the others didn't. Where I was refused forms for college being told I wasn't clever enough, My English teacher wrote on my last report "Would make a good leader if called upon." I was completely confused by this for years as I was always the mouse in the corner and no one ever listened to me. I was nobody.
Further Education: Just to prove my teachers right, I went on to Sixth Form and failed more exams but regardless of the grades, I enjoyed learning and still continued to do evening classes and further studies to this day. I teach my children that with the way information changes so quickly today, it's not important what you know, but important that you know how to find out and that learning is about more than just straight forward education. Work: I jumped from job to job over the preceeding years, including factory work, trying to find something that suited me, challenged me and provided a comfortable level of income too - but it never came. By now I realised that my "ORDINARY" status was no longer acceptable and I had the power to change my life. I got a job at a head office doing speed keying but two years later was laid off again. Gladly to be honest - it was just another factory but paperwork instead of chips and peas! I used my redundancy pay to take more typing exams and soon had a job as a receptionist at a Lotus/Suzuki showroom. A great job I was happy with at last, but each job I took seemed to be lower in pay than the last. Then I met Denis!
Building my family: I met Denis in December 1991 and we were married in June 2002. Once our daughter arrived in October, I gave up work and became a housewife. Now I just felt ordinary again. It was wonderful being a Family of our own and Matthew arrived two years later - bringing tears and struggles and depression. I was eventually Secretary, Treasurer and member of several committees for playschools etc. over the first few school years and when the children were a little more independent, I needed to start rebuilding my own social life, so joined St John Ambulance. I did my first-aid, defibrilator, manual handling, leadership training and even medical gasses. I enjoyed being on duty with the public and helping people. After a day at the races where I crouched over a fallen jockey to protect him while the horses lapped the track and thundered dangerously close, I no longer felt so ordinary. Then one evening my best friend phoned to say he didn't feel well and would I escort him to the Hospital. I sat in the back of the car with him as my husband waved us of - his other friend was driving. We hadn't even got half way when he went unconscious. It was difficult to keep his airway open and we flagged someone down to help get hime out of the car. He stopped breathing! I rescuscitated him on the roadside while waiting for the abulance and was rewarded a week later on my birthday when he was released from hospital again.
Why am I here?: By now Matthew was becoming suicidal and hearing voices. Only aged nine, he was receiving weekly councelling and was in a dreadful state emotionally. We took him out of school and have never once regretted our decision. He is now a happy and balanced child with inteligence and life in him again, but I had to give up St Johns as we now knew he had Asperger's and with my husband working more hours, Matthew wasn't fit to be in large social places very often. However I was still not happy with being ordinary and staying at home to be just a housewife. I tried to start my own website of stock photography but again my efforts failed. I then found myself in Adland by some strange occurence only two weeks after closing my site down. That was in November 2005.
What Adland has done for me: I have gone from being just a housewife and mother - to being the Vice President of an International Marketing Company! Wow! What most work at home mums would dream of but never believe will happen to them. I found friends and help, belief and trust, opportunity and team-work here and I have witnessed what I can only think of as "My Fairy Tale". I knew there would be no chance of me being swept away to live in a castle and become a princess, but this is close enough for me and I am loving every moment of it. I spoke to someone from Home Education today who laughed unbelievably at my luck and instantly is demanding a writeup as an example to other Parents and Home educators who are depressed about being stuck at home with their children. :-D
W.O.S.A.T. Wings of Success Advisory Team has given me the hope and purpose that I always dreamed of. I have been able to stay at home and provide my children with the education and stability they need, while at the same time fulfilling my needs for challenge and success in life. I no longer feel "Ordinary" but still don't claim to have done anything out of the ordinary. All I have done is to be myself. I have spoken when I felt I needed to and kept quiet when I needed. I have put my leadership training to use and not lead others - but guided them to where they need to be. I don't believe leadership to be about dicatation and ordering, but about assisting others to work together as a team. There have been tough times as with the formation of any company. It was hard work, but we stuck together and Dr King and the W.O.S.A.T. team have become not just a part of my life, but a part of my Family and my Family have become a part of W.O.S.A.T. too - even Denis and Dr King are planning the day they can meet in person and shake hands.
I have worked long and late nights with team members online to get our website up and running, and have much more to learn as we bring our products across Europe and open a "Fairytale Opportunity" to many many more people who would otherwise be "Just ordinary".
