This is so true Kathy, and it's why I have taken advantage of my own education and home school my children. They attend Church groups for extra reading and prayer. They also take field trips this way, and attend summer camp for two weeks out of the summer. I have always blamed ourselves for the state and shape our public schools are in. I beleave people or parents became lazy when it came to raising their children, just as they have in other area's of their lives. It just seems like we as a people have handed the moral and ethic up bringing of our children over to the government. A job that it is not meant to do. The problems will not get any better, until we as parents take those responsabilities that we have given up for so long, back. Myself I'm not into changing people. That would just be like beating your head agains't a wall. I just took my own kids into hand, and did and do what is needed to raise GOD loving and fearing, respectful kids. I don't know about anyone else, but even as young as I was, when prayer and GOD were removed from our public lives, through out the USA, is when this Nation started falling apart, and has just grown worse over the years.
When my kids ask me why we don't live like others. I tell them that Christ taught we are to be in the world not of the world, and if that makes us different, then all the better. It's better to live right then try to make wrong right don't you think? Yes this made them think, and make a choice. So for, out of the 6 children I have, they all have chose to stick with the up bringing that my Husband and I have been providing. I'm not saying it's perfect, for from it. We have had our troubles, ups and downs. We also left the choice open to them. If they would have chosen public school, then we would have allowed them to go. As a matter of fact, they have all tried it at one time or another. They all perferred home school in the end, with the involvement of the Church. With my 2 youngest being 13 years old now, I will soon be done with the school part. Yet once a parent always a parent. I have 3 that are grown and on their own. They have families, jobs, and are responable adults. They also take responability for their own actions as well, which is something that is rarely seen in todays world. When I first started home schooling my kids I took alot of flack from my family, but stood my ground. Now I am very much respected by the same ones who gave me flack. The results earned that respect. My older children have even thanked me for it. It works, I only wish more parents would do it. No it's not easy, but nothing in life is easy that is worth anything.
