Know what really bugs me?
People who send me email without bothering to find out what my name is.
I'm not talking about the thousands of spam emails I receive that are sent out by robots.
I'm talking about the emails I receive that start out, "Dear friend" or "Dear #username" or "Dear enter name here" or worse, "Dear Ezine owner" or "Dear myemailaddress".
What kind of boneheads are sending these to me?
My name and/or contact information is on every website I own, on every email I send and in every ezine I send out. Heck, my picture is on the front page of most of my websites so that anybody who takes the few seconds it takes to check should even know what I LOOK like BEFORE they send their blurb to my inbox.
Don't get me wrong.
I enjoy receiving email. I get to know some really great people this way. I don't care if you send me your ad. I'll never accuse you of spamming me.
Just take the time to get my name right.
Don't call me "Friend" until I at least know who you are and you know who I am.
Incidently, I don't read email that starts with "Dear AnythingButMyName". I DO read a lot of email that starts with "Hi" or "Hello" from people I don't know.
At least they're starting out honestly. Right from the outset, they are admitting that they don't know me. (Although it's pretty easy to find my name!!)
But it REALLY bugs me when people try to be cozy with me when they really can't be bothered knowing who I am. Their first few words tell me that they don't give a hoot who I am as long as I turn over some cash to them or join their crappy program.
That begs another question: Why on Earth would I want to be in the downline of someone who cares so little about their business that they can't even be bothered finding out who they're going to be working with? Do you think they're likely to be supportive?
Not likely!!
So now you know what really bugs me. Or at least one thing that really bugs me!
I hope this helps YOU with YOUR marketing efforts. If this bugs me, it probably bugs a lot of other people, too. Don't do it.
If you want to be successful in business, take the time to find the contact information of the person you are about to write to. If all you can find is an email address, then use "Hi" or "Hello".
"Dear Friend" ain't too friendly, in my books.
It's just plain annoying.
God bless,
Dave
