============== "Thank you for that clarification, now I will be able to recognize them." ============== That's the problem Deborah. Often, they look like everyone else. It's what goes on between their ears that defines them. Just a bit more clarification. Best Wishes Gary Simpson

Hi Linda, OOOOOHHH.... this is definitely one of my pet peeves. As someone has mentioned in one of the posts here, I've created more than one thread on this subject in my forums. Virus Warning - This one will Burn your Toast! and Hackers and Hoaxes - an article from our very own Adlandpro friend, Trina Sonnenburg. My rules are really simple - if I get a chain email from ANYONE, including my best, dearest, and closest friends, it gets dumped. Period. I don't even forward really funny jokes if they come in as a chain letter. Chain letters, apart from virtually always being hoaxes (or jokes), are the spammers very best friend. Even after all these years that email and the internet has been around, people STILL don't know what BCC means, and simply forward the letter on with everyone else's email address plainly visible to all. It blows me away that people who are at least intelligent enough to be able to go online are so careless, ignorant and stupid when it comes to internet security. It really serves most people right when they get clobbered by malware and spam. However, it really burns my toast when someone is forwarding my email address all over the internet in a chain letter I'm not even interested in, part of, or party to. If I wanted to send spam, I could easily get hundreds of fresh email addresses with every one of these chain letters. If I wanted to be a nasty sob, I could even send out trojans to all the "friends" of the person passing on the letter. I've been chastised in another forum for posting a thread asking people to get their facts straight before sending out another form of chain letter, the dreaded VIRUS warning. I was told that it's better to be safe than sorry, and I should be thankful that my friend took the time to warn me. OK... one word... BULL! The "virus" was a fake, the warning was being passed around as a chain, and the warning itself might almost as well have been a virus for all the bandwidth it was wasting. It's SO easy to check these things out before passing them on. Every antivirus company has virtually up-to-the-minute information, as well as Snopes.com and Scambusters.org. --------------------------------------------------------- If you get that letter from anyone here, please post the url to snopes in their forum. Repeatedly if needed. --------------------------------------------------------- It seems to take an exhausting number of posts to get the point home! By the way, Linda, I really appreciate the fact that you ARE a professional who's not afraid to take a stand and make a statement. Keep it up. God bless, Dave

Hi Dave; ========================================= I've been chastised in another forum for posting a thread asking people to get their facts straight before sending out another form of chain letter, the dreaded VIRUS warning. I was told that it's better to be safe than sorry, and I should be thankful that my friend took the time to warn me. OK... one word... BULL! ========================================= I agree with your one word reply. lol "Better safe than sorry" might be a great slogan for a Trojan campaign -- but it has NO place in spreading hoaxes. Several years ago, my sister deleted a file after getting a hoax and discovered that Windows wouldn't run. It cost her $$ to get her computer fixed. So much for better safe than sorry. When it comes to chain mail of any sort- the ONLY mature and responsible method is to check it out or delete it. There is no third option. ========================================= By the way, Linda, I really appreciate the fact that you ARE a professional who's not afraid to take a stand and make a statement. Keep it up. ========================================= Thanks. As you know, it's not always easy. Sometimes the backlash stings. C'est la vie. The only thing that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. : ) Linda
