Hi;
In 11 years online, I've received a lot of garbage, spam and chain letters. The delete key is my friend.
Today I received one that was vile. It said people who don't forward this DIE. It gave names of two such deaths. Then it said;
THIS IS NOT A JOKE! You have read the warnings...
So - this time, I decided not to hit delete. I hit reply.
Essentially, my reply said "How dare you." I asked the person if they stopped to think what might happen if some newbie with a weak heart or ill health received that email and didn't have "enough friends" to send it to.
I told the sender that the LEAST they could do is check out a email like that before they send it out to their address book.
I also told them the letter is a hoax and can be found on Snopes at;
http://www.snopes.com/luck/chain.asp
(about 3/4 way down the page)
And... I said that while the letter is a hoax, karma isn't. What goes around comes around, and I sure hope they have the decency to send an apology to the same people they sent it to.
Know what I got back? Hate mail.
Apparently, I am "self righteous" and unprofessional. I am "certainly" not the kind of person they'd EVER want to work with. (Well, that's mutual)
So why am I posting this here? Because if this letter is in circulation again (for the umpteenth time) there ARE going to be people at Adland forwarding it.
If you get that letter from anyone here, please post the url to snopes in their forum. Repeatedly if needed.
At some point, people need learn to check out stuff before they send it on.
: )
