Dear friends, we have entered the 1890's, a decade of great realizations in the main lines of his artistic activity, with Bouguereau's paintings just posted (see previous page). Here is one of his most appreciated master works of those years in the religious genre.

I was missing out on this wonderful "Gleaner", only rarely seen in online galleries and catalogues. In it, both the theme and execution are exquisite.

I would like to post a trio of most special paintings by William Bouguereau, and I am doing it regardless of any other consideration than they possess a strange beauty of their own that powerfully catches the viewer's eye.

William Bouguereau - Recollection (also known as 'Souvenir')
(oil on canvas, 1895)

William Bouguereau - Etude de Tete de Femme Blonde de Face
(Head Study of Female Face Blonde)
(oil on canvas, 1898)

William Bouguereau - Flower Girl (La Bouquetiere)
(oil on canvas, 1899)

Another most special Bouguereau trio, with the particularity that all three master works were painted in 1894.

William Bouguereau - The Priestess of Bacchus
(oil on canvas, 1894)

William Bouguereau - The Pearl
(oil on canvas, 1894)

William Bouguereau - The Palm Leaf
(oil on canvas, 1894)

In the area of religious paintings, on the other hand, there is a couple of most special portraits of the Virgin that William Bouguereau completed within a lapse of a mere two years between them. In these, in fact, a significant difference can be appreciated between the one he painted in 1888 (shown on page 22 of this thread), almost deprived of any detail, and the one with which he entered the 1890s which offers a prodigality of them.

William Bouguereau - Madone Assise ('The Seated Madonna')
(oil on canvas, 1888)

William Bouguereau - The Virgin with Angels
(oil on canvas, 1900)
