In the area of religious paintings, on the other hand, there is a couple of most special portraits of the Virgin that William Bouguereau completed within a lapse of a mere two years between them. In these, in fact, a significant difference can be appreciated between the one he painted in 1888 (shown on page 22 of this thread), almost deprived of any detail, and the one with which he entered the 1890s which offers a prodigality of them.
