After 10 years of negotiations, Russia's Gazprom and China's CNPC have finally signed a historic gas deal which will provide the world's fastest growing economy with the natural gas it needs to keep pace for the next 30 years.

The total value of the contract is $400 billion, Gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller said. However, the price of gas stipulated in the document remains a "commercial secret."

Assuming the overall price of the contract includes only the cost of supplies of Russian gas, then the $400 billion price tag means China will pay about $350 per 1,000 cubic meters. Delivery price for the contract will be tied to market oil prices, Putin said from Shanghai on Tuesday.

Infrastructure investment from both sides will be more than $70 billion and will be the world's largest construction project, with Russia providing $55 billion up front and China $22 billion for pipelines on their respective territories.

This is Gazprom's biggest contract to date.

Russia will supply China 38 billion cubic meters of gas per year via the eastern 'Power of Siberia' pipeline, which crosses Siberia and reaches China's populous northeast regions. A separate route that could deliver gas to China's western provinces and provide diversification is also in the works, according to Putin.

A memorandum of understanding was signed in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of China Xi Jinping on the second day of Putin’s two-day state visit to Shanghai.

According to Miller, the deal was set to go through at 4:00pm Shanghai time when he understood "all fundamental issues were resolved."

RT producers were informed of the landmark energy deal prior to its signing after a conversation with Miller.

The deal comes as a part of Russia’s larger-scale pivot to Asia and especially China as Western economies threaten sanctions over turmoil in Ukraine. Sanctions by the US and the EU have been mostly limited to visa bans and asset freezes on some of Russia’s top officials, while so far only threatening a so-called third round of real economic sanctions against Russian hydrocarbon businesses.

Just ahead of Putin's visit to Shanghai, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev gave reassurance that the agreed price would be fair.

“One side always wants to sell for a higher price, while the other wants to buy for a lower price,” Medvedev said. “I believe that in the long run, the price will be fair and totally comparable to the price of European supplies.”

A major breakthrough in negotiations came on Sunday as Gazprom chief Aleksey Miller sat down with his CNPC counterpart, Zhou Jiping, in Beijing to discuss final details, including price formulas.

Although Europe is still Russia's largest energy market – buying more than 160 billion cubic meters of Russian natural gas in 2013 – Moscow will use every opportunity to diversify gas deliveries and boost its presence in Asian markets.

“I wouldn’t look for politics behind this, but I have no doubt that supplying energy to the Asia Pacific Region holds out a great promise in the future,” Medvedev said.

In October 2009, Gazprom and CNPC inked a framework agreement for the Altai project which envisions building a pipeline to supply natural gas from fields in Siberia via the western part of the Russia-China border.

In March 2013, Gazprom and CNPC signed a memorandum of understanding on Russian gas supplies to China along the so-called eastern 'Power of Siberia' route. When both pipelines are activated, Russia can supply Asia with 68 billion cubic meters of gas annually.

Last year, China consumed about 170 billion cubic meters of natural gas and is expected to consume 420 billion cubic meters per year by 2020. http://rt.com/business/160068-china-russia-gas-deal/

China and Russia Reach 30-Year Gas Deal

The impetus to complete the gas deal, which has been talked about as a game-changing accord for more than a decade, finally came together after the Ukrainian crisis forced Russia’s president, Vladimir V. Putin, to urgently seek an alternative to Europe, Moscow’s main energy market. Europe has slapped sanctions on Russia and sought ways to reduce its dependence on Russian energy.

Prince Charles Passes Comment on Putin, and a Nation Is Aghast

Ukraine Crisis Pushing Putin Toward China

Mr. Putin, on a two-day visit to Shanghai, and the Chinese leader, Xi Jinping, oversaw the signing of the contract between Gazprom and the China National Petroleum Corporation, the biggest natural gas deal Russia has sealed since the collapse of the Soviet Union. The contract runs for 30 years and calls for the construction of pipelines and other infrastructure that will require tens of billions of dollars in investment.

A Deal of Much Consequence

The agreement signed by the presidents of China and Russia on Wednesday, which will provide Russian natural gas to China for the first time, also carries major economic and geopolitical implications:

  • The pact will bolster President Vladimir V. Putin’s “Eurasian Economic Union” by helping to draw Russia and China closer, forming a more powerful economic counterweight to the United States and Europe. This comes at a time when the Obama administration is trying to isolate Russia economically over the crisis in Ukraine and as American tensions with China are rising over cyberspying and China’s territorial disputes with its neighbors.

  • Russia secures a contract, worth an estimated $400 billion over 30 years, that is the biggest in the history of its natural gas industry and provides Mr. Putin with an important new market for natural gas just when the European Union, its most important Western customer, is seeking to diminish its reliance on Russian gas.

  • China, the world’s leading consumer of energy, secures an important source of clean fuel at an advantageous price, decreasing the country’s reliance on imported coal and oil.

The deal, which Mr. Putin called an “epochal event,” solidified a relationship between China and Russia that had been warming since Mr. Xi assumed power in 2012, as Mr. Xi and Mr. Putin have found common cause.

“The Sino-Soviet rift that brought the two countries to the brink of nuclear war in the ’60s has been healed rather dramatically,” said Strobe Talbott, president of the Brookings Institution and the chairman of Secretary of State John Kerry’s Foreign Policy Advisory Board.

Ostensibly on the same side during the Cold War, the Asian neighbors even then competed for global influence with their divergent brands of communism. They fought a brief but explosive border war in 1969, and later took opposite sides in conflicts in Vietnam and Afghanistan.

They have similar views of the United States, however, including opposition to its unilateral military actions in Kosovo, Iraq and Libya, and wanted to “take Uncle Sam down a peg or two,” Mr. Talbott said. Mr. Putin, in particular, wanted to make a point of showing that the United States and its NATO partners were in decline.

The deal offered a lift for the Russian economy, he said, and for Mr. Putin, China’s validation would improve Russia’s world image.

At the same time, Mr. Xi was unhappy with the Obama administration on issues ranging from Washington’s outspoken support of its military alliance with Japan, its criticism of China’s actions in the South China Sea, and its hard line on cybertheft, said Shi Yinhong, a professor of international relations at Renmin University in Beijing.

Although China had expressed neutrality over the Ukraine crisis, the strained relations with Washington in other spheres tipped that position in favor of Russia, Mr. Shi said. Mr. Xi and Mr. Putin have met seven times, he noted.

Those factors appear to have pushed the two sides to an agreement, whose final sticking point had been price. The final price of the Russian gas, which will flow through a 2,500-mile pipeline from two fields in Siberia, was not disclosed, and energy markets were trying to parse who gained the bigger advantage.

Russia had been holding out for a price close to what European countries pay, and China for a price akin to the cheaper gas it buys from Central Asia, energy experts who tracked the talks said.

With Russia’s economy near recession and the International Monetary Fund projecting 0.2 percent growth this year, Mr. Putin was desperate to get the deal done, energy experts said.

The chief executive of Gazprom, Alexey Miller, said the contract called for Russia to supply 38 billion cubic meters of gas annually over 30 years, making the price about $350 per thousand cubic meters. In 2013, the average price of Gazprom’s gas in Europe was about $380 per thousand cubic meters.

“The pricing appears to be between European Union prices and Turkmenistan prices,” said Joerg Wuttke, the president of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China. “We will have to wait for the next few months to learn about the details.”

Morena Skalamera, a fellow at the Geopolitics of Energy Project at Harvard, said Mr. Putin was more willing to concede on price than he had been before the Ukraine crisis.

“If the European market was a question mark before the Ukrainian crisis, now with sanctions, Putin needed China even more,” she said.

“Politically, it is important for Putin to show that the ‘Greater Russia’ is back on the international scene and that it has other, non-Western options to restore its rightful place.”

In exchange for a lower price, China offered a loan of about $50 billion that will finance development of the gas fields and the construction of the pipeline by Russia up to the Chinese border, Ms. Skalamera said. The Chinese would build the remaining pipeline, and gas is scheduled to start pumping in 2018, she said.

In remarks after the signing, Mr. Putin stressed that the price of the gas was based on the market price for oil, just as it was for Russia’s gas supplies to European countries. “The gas price formula, as in our other contracts, is pegged to the market of oil and oil products,” Itar-Tass quoted him as saying.

Without the oil price benchmark, Russia would be under pressure to renegotiate European prices, said Kenneth S. Courtis, a founding partner of Thames Investment. The price of Russian gas to Europe is based on fluctuations in oil prices, making it more expensive than gas that China buys from Central Asia, he said.

Even under the new agreement, Europe will remain Russia’s biggest market.

The production of American shale gas also gave Russia incentive to rapidly complete the deal with China and to seek other markets in Asia, Ms. Skalamera said. “The rapid rise of U.S. natural gas is giving Europeans genuine market options,” she said. “Many are opting out of the grip of Gazprom. The result? Russia is looking for a new cash cow, turning its gaze east.”

China was under no such pressure, having lined up substantial and cheaper flows of gas from Central Asia. Siberian natural gas does give China a cleaner substitute for the fossil fuels — coal and petroleum — that provide most of its energy needs, and cause much of the pollution smothering China’s cities.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, shake hands in Shanghai on May 21, 2014.

Russia's Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) have signed a historic 30-year contract to supply natural gas to China, according to Russia Today and confirmed by Bloomberg.

The total value of the contract is $400 billion, Gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller told RT, although the price in the document remains a "commercial secret." Negotiations have been ongoing for more than a decade.

The deal would send 38 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China each year, starting in 2018, with the potential to expand the annual capacity to 61 billion cubic meters.

The gas will be sent through a new eastern pipeline linking the countries. Reuters reports that Russia will invest $55 billion in gas exploration and pipeline construction and Beijing will give roughly $20 billion to Moscow as part of the agreement.

China consumed about 170 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2013 and set a target of up to 420 billion cubic meters a year by 2020.

Europe is Russia’s largest energy importer as it bought more than 160 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2013, but tensions and sanctions over Putin's meddling in Ukraine have Russia looking elsewhere.

Consequently, the deal is huge for the Kremlin since natural gas represents nearly 60% of Russia's total exports. That said, the amount of gas is still only about a fifth of what Russia sends to Europe.

SHANGHAI, May 20 (RIA Novosti) – Russia and China are planning to increase the volume of direct payments in mutual trade in their national currencies, according to a joint statement on a new stage of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation signed during high-level talks in Shanghai on Tuesday.

“The sides intend to take new steps to increase the level and expansion of spheres of Russian-Chinese practical cooperation, in particular to establish close cooperation in the financial sphere, including an increase in direct payments in the Russian and Chinese national currencies in trade, investments and loan services,” the statement said.

The two countries are also set to deepen dialogue on macroeconomic policy issues, as well as boost growth in mutual investment, including in transportation infrastructure, the development of mineral deposits, and the construction of budget housing within Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in China on Tuesday for high-level talks with President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping. A large package of documents, including bilateral, intergovernmental, inter-departmental and corporate agreements are expected to be signed during the two-day visit, aimed at cementing Russian-Chinese relations.

The decision to switch to the national currencies, thus reducing dependence on the US dollar was first announced in 2010 by then-Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. The announcement was followed by a deal struck by the central banks of the two countries that allowed bilateral trade in the ruble and renminbi, as well as in freely convertible currency. http://en.ria.ru/russia/20140520/189968566/Russia-China-Plan-to-Expand-Payments-in-National-Currencies.html

Company That Created Obamacare Website LINKED To Benghazi Video

innocence of muslims - healthcare.gov

In a SHOCKING discovery, CGI Federal – the Canadian Company that built the Obamacare website – appears to have a connection to the “Innocence of Muslims” videothe Obama administration blamed for the Benghazi attacks.

And here’s how it was done:

The evidence is well established that in 2010, CGI acquired Stanley Associates, which “provides services to the U.S. federal civilian, defense and intelligence agencies”. [1]

When the crudely produced video “Innocence of Muslims” was posted to a YouTube it needed a boost, especially since it was posted by someone no one had ever heard of and who had only uploaded two videos – that were basically the same.

Well, a YouTube channel known as NewsPoliticsNow3 (NPN3) has been connected to Stanley Associates, the service provider for U.S. defense and “intelligence”.

On September 11, 2012, NewsPoliticsNow3 (NPN3) uploaded a short version of thevideo (only 1:32 of it). It was in fact NPN3 (see screenshot below taken 19 hours aftervideo uploaded) which gave the crude movie a new title “Innocence of Muslims”, instead of the name given previously (click on image to enlarge).

Note: Screen capture from 9/12/12 (top right). NPN3 posted “Innocence of Muslims” trailer 19 hours earlier… on 9/11/12.

Note: Screen capture from 9/12/12 (top right). NPN3 posted “Innocence of Muslims” trailer 19 hours earlier… on 9/11/12.

After NPN3 caused the video to gain more than four million views of its 1:32 long trailer, NewsPoliticsNow3 took down the video on or before 9/20/12. The skids of Sam Bacile’s YouTube channel had been sufficiently greased; his video was off and running. NPN3 had done its job of priming the pump; then it vanished.

The evidence that NPN3 is a creation of Stanley is captured in the following screenshot:

Screen shot reveals NPN connection to Stanley as well as CGI merger with Stanley in 2010.

Screen shot reveals NPN connection to Stanley as well as CGI merger with Stanley in 2010.

And the evidence of Stanley’s working for the Feds is ironclad. The CGI press release announcing the completion of the merger identifies Stanley as a company that…

…provides services to the U.S. federal civilian, defense and intelligence agencies.

The Obama Administration played its role accordingly. It’s important to remember the words of then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the first “Istanbul Process” meeting she chaired along with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary-General on July 15, 2011. Hillary said, as relayed by Shoebat.com:

…we are focused on promoting interfaith education and collaboration, enforcing antidiscrimination laws, protecting the rights of all people to worship as they choose, and to use some old-fashioned techniques of peer pressure and shaming, so that people don’t feel that they have the support to do what we abhor.

As an agent of Stanley Associates, NPN3 would have been needed as a front, as an agitprop agent. The Obama administration needed to be involved in making the video go viral while creating the perception that it “had absolutely nothing to do with it”. The video was supposed to invoke “peer pressure and shaming” without the hint of government involvement.

After all, these were the words of Hillary Clinton herself and how she envisioned it.

NewsPoliticsNow3 screen shot from 9/15/12. Over four million views of its 1:32 trailer.

NewsPoliticsNow3 screen shot from 9/15/12. Over four million views of its 1:32 trailer.

Above is a screen shot of the NPN3 YouTube channel on September 15, 2012 in which the 1:32 long trailer garnered more than 4.5 million views. By September 20th, the channel was gone.

The one person who has a history with both Stanley Associates and CGI Federal’s role in developing the Obamacare website is the company’s President Donna Ryan. Here is an excerpt from her bio:

Ms. Donna A. Ryan has been the President of CGI Federal Inc. since September 28, 2011. At CGI Federal Inc., Ms. Ryan is responsible for leading CGI’s strategy, growth and client delivery across the Civilian, Defense and Intelligence Sectors of the U.S. Federal Government. As a member of CGI’s Management Committee, she also participates in the development and execution of CGI’s global strategy. Ms. Ryan had been Senior Vice President at Stanley, Inc. since August 2010.

August of 2010 is when the acquisition of Stanley by CGI was finalized, according to what appears to be a CGI PowerPoint presentation, which also refers to CGI as:

A global leader in IT, business process, and professional services, CGI partners with federal agencies to provide end-to-end solutions for defense, civilian, and intelligence missions

Ryan has a history that includes being a Senior VP with Stanley and President with CGI Federal. While holding both titles, Ryan also made several trips to the White House.

Prior to Stanley Associates’ apparent involvement with the NPN3 YouTube channel upload of the short 1:32 video on September 11, 2012, the name “Innocence of Muslims” was never used. When casting for the movie was being done, it was entitled “Desert Warrior”. The alleged June 30th screening at the Vine Theatre was entitled “Innocence of Bin Laden” and the two videos uploaded to the Sam Bacile YouTube channel were identified only as “Muhammad Movie Trailer” and “The Real Life of Muhammad” respectively. Here is a September 17, 2012 screen shot of the Sam Bacile YouTube Channel:

Note the names of the video (Neither is identified as “Innocence of Muslims”).

Note the names of the video (Neither is identified as “Innocence of Muslims”).

In conclusion, strong probable cause exists to suggest that it was Stanley’s NPN3 that created the name “Innocence of Muslims” which became the signature of the Obama administration’s outrage, broadcast all over the world. It was the “Innocence of Muslims” title that the Obama administration pointed to for leaving a trail of libel, murder, and American blood in its wake. Regardless of Nakoula’s role in producing and uploading thevideo, he didn’t give the video the title that would live on in infamy.

REFERENCES

[1] In a series of videos posted to YouTube by a man going by the handle of “Montagraph”, an image capture of the NPN avatar ties back to Stanley Associates, as the screen shot above demonstrates. Two other entities must be brought into the equation first – Stanley Associates, Inc. and a YouTube channel identified as NewsPoliticsNow3, no longer in existence.

Keep in mind that Shoebat.com has made the case that “Innocence of Muslims” was about agitprop and that the Obama administration was involved – to varying degrees – in the production and covert marketing of the video. In a Shoebat.com exclusive, Cindy Lee Garcia, an actress who appeared in the video, told us that the filmmaker – Nakoula Basseley Nakoula – informed her that he is a Muslim, not the Coptic Christian he was portrayed to be.

Putting something up on the internet in the hopes of it going viral can be a futile endeavor, even when it’s an excellent product… or… video. When it’s a third-rate, two-bit video – as “Innocence of Muslims” was, a substantial delivery system would almost definitely be necessary. That’s where NewsPoliticsNow comes in.

The filmmaker’s son Abanob Nakoula created the Sam Bacile YouTube channel and posted two videos in July of 2012.

Obama Will Sacrifice Baghdad Embassy to Start WW III

us embassy baghdad

U.S. Embassy in Baghdad

The events in Iraq are spinning out of control faster than one can report the unfolding holocaust. As Mark Twain once said, history may not repeat itself but it sure does rhyme as Obama is attempting to create a second Iranian Hostage Crisis.

The situation in Iraq has gone from bad to worse as last week witnessed the capture of Iraq’s second-largest city, Mosul. Sunni militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, also known as the ISIS or ISIL, introduced strict religious law on the city, barring religious freedom and requiring women wear to veils. The radical group later advanced south, seizing Saddam Hussein’s hometown of Tikrit. It is the fundamentalist Iranian hostage crisis revisited.

Obama Is Trying to Recreate An Iranian Hostage Crisis

I interviewed Doug Hagmann last night on The Common Sense Show and he stated that he feared that Baghdad could fall to the “Jihadist insurgents” within 48 hours. Some of my sources feel that Baghdad could hold out for a week, but not much longer because Obama is showing signs of abandoning the embassy personnel in Bagdad just as he abandoned Ambassador Chris Stevens and his four fellow Americans at Benghazi.

I see another parallel as well which is frightening beyond belief.

The State Department has acknowledged that there are credible reports that implicate ISIS forces executing captured Iraqi soldiers along with entire neighborhoods of captured towns and cities. The State Department stated that “we condemn these tactics in the strongest possible terms and stand in solidarity with the Iraqi people against these horrendous and senseless acts of violence.” This violence will be used as another pretext for war.

There are thousands of Americans in the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. These Americans are apparently frightened, with many wanting to be evacuated out of Iraq. This is not happening. (Editor’s note: Only a partial evacuation has taken place. The embassy is still operating.)

The Obama Administration fears that evacuating the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad might make Obama appear to be weak. Fox News reported on the dire situation and Obama’s decision to risk the lives of innocent Americans because he wants to use the situation for political profit.

As things go from bad to worse, it is now known that there are 600 American contractors that are presently stranded at an Iraqi Air Force base. Fortunately, Obama had the foresight to evacuate the U.S. military personnel in the area. Inexplicably, as he played golf in Palm Springs, he failed to evacuate the American contractors. Failing to do what Obama failed to, at least the Iraqi Air Force has been evacuating the Americans, yet, reports on the ground indicate that as many as 200 still remain in harms way. Meanwhile, Obama was trying to decide if he should use his nine iron or pitching wedge on hole 6. By the way, Obama did not ask for approval, by the Iraqi forces, with regard to the evacuation of the 400 of the 600 contractors left behind. Unbelievably, in a heinous act of insensitivity, Obama refused to provide military cover for the evacuation of the 400 American contractors. In further consideration, perhaps Obama is not being insensitive, maybe, he is being calculating.

The Iranian Hostage Crisis Revisited

Those of us old enough to remember the fundamentalist Iranian forces who stormed the American embassy in Tehran and held embassy personnel hostage for over a year, must be experiencing flashbacks, because it is ready to happen again.

The Iranian Hostage Crisis event was the final nail in the political coffin of President Jimmy Carter. In the midst of Iranian forces murdering innocents and threatening Americans, Carter, at the behest of National Security Advisor, Brzezinski, did nothing to protect the embassy. Brzezinski as we all know is the ultimate insider. He was the co-founder of the Trilateral Commission and is at the center of all globalist schemes. The Iranian Hostage Crisis was a contrived event.

The endgame result of the fall of the American embassy in Iran was to polarize the region, create even more “oil shortages” due to manufactured political discord and thus, dramatically drive up the price of oil. Meanwhile, the “Us vs. Them” Hegelian Dialectic was born in the Middle East. Terrorism jumped from the shadows into the spotlight. This lead to a direct attack upon civil liberties here in America, culminating in the 9/11 attacks and the Constitution has never been the same.

In Baghdad, Obama has reinforced the embassy with 100 marines and army soldiers. This is like sticking your finger in leak of the Titanic. The US Embassy is going to fall. The only question remaining is whether or not Obama will let these people die, or will he rescue them from the roof tops by helicopter in an evacuation covered by F-16′s? Clearly, the embassy personnel are political fodder for a larger purpose and what purpose would that be?

No Excuse for War Is Complete Without Martyrs

embassy rpg 2Could you write this script along with me? I can see it now, embedded CNN reporters, who are paid to only report what they are told to report, will show images of American embassy personnel being lifted one at a time in a harness and pulled up to the waiting helicopter. The Marines guarding the embassy will be forced to cover the withdrawal and will be sacrificed. These men will be the martyrs designed to enrage the American people and stir the public up into a war frenzy. In a scene from the show, 24, perhaps we can mix in a helicopter, or two, knocked out of the sky by insurgents shooting RPG’s from the back to Toyota pickup trucks. Pickup trucks, where do these Iraqi insurgents get the pickup trucks? They get them from the same place as the al-Qaeda did in Libya, from CIA operatives, such as Christopher Stevens, who are funding both sides of this fight.

There are even more martyrs being created across the country as American contractors, left unprotected by Obama, will provide even more fodder which will be served up to the sheeple public who don’t know any better.

Conclusion

Get ready, this week you are likely to see the conflict in Iraq enter your living room in a manner not seen by the American public since the Vietnam War. The reports of American deaths in Iraq will be greatly exaggerated in order to get the desired effect.

Meanwhile, ISIS, after conquering Iraq, will be headed toward the Syrian border and this is where America and Russia will face off in their first real war. This is the goal of the CIA. ISIS will overwhelm Assad and Russia will not permit this to happen and intervene. How this is likely to unfold will be the topic of Part Two where the why’s will be explained.

I am amazed that few comment or share their opinions on these things. Feel free to share, comment/post and voice your opinion freely, and yes, we may bark and nibble at one another but the conversations have to be had. No Galactic Being is gonna tell us how to solve our shared challenges. We're in the kitchen so Talk Darn It!

Personally I agree with Bill a lot maybe 88% what about you?

Bill Whittle: Why Benghazi Matters

is latest, hard-hitting FIREWALL, Bill provides a moment-by-moment breakdown of the events leading up to the attack on the Consulate in Benghazi, a detailed analysis of who was doing and saying what as the attack was underway, and chronicles the following ten days of deceptions and lies on the part of the White House and the State Department, throwing a clear, cold and unflattering light on the competence and character of the President and Secretary of State.WHY BENGHAZI MATTERS

TRANSCRIPT:

Hi everybody. I’m Bill Whittle and this is the Firewall.

Before we get into what Benghazi is, let’s address what it isn’t. It isn’t irrelevant, isn’t trivial, and it isn’t a “witch hunt” as many prominent Democrats and their supporters desperately want you to believe.

For example, this graphic has been going viral: It shows the date and location of ten embassy or consular attacks during the Bush presidency, with a total of 60 people dead and the number of outraged Republicans set at zero; therefore these attacks happen frequently, therefore Benghazi is a hypocritical, witch hunt staged simply to get Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton.

Unfortunately for the millions of people who have seen this graphic and passed it on, one of them – at least one – knows how to read, think and research.

Kyle Becker, at the Independent Journal Review, took a look at each of these ten attacks. In eight of them, the total number of Americans killed was – zero. It is not the responsibility of the US State Department and the President of the United States to protect the lives of foreign nationals, no matter how tragic or common these attacks may be. Their job is to protect American citizens and especially Consular personnel living abroad.

In 2003, a truck bomb killed 36 people, including nine American defense contractors. President Bush immediately called it a terrorist attack, the Saudis investigated and killed two of the attackers in the raids that followed.

On March 2, 2006, in Karachi, Pakistan, a suicide bomber killed 4, including an American diplomat named David Foy. It was instantly denounced as a terror attack; there were no advance calls for additional security; Mr. Foy was killed instantly with no possibility of rescue; and there was no cover-up or attempt to spin it other than what it was.

Every day in America there are over 6,000 burglaries. But one break-in may be more important than the others, because one of those burglaries – Watergate -- may go directly to the lawfulness, integrity and candor of the President of the United States of America.

Benghazi matters, because it goes directly to the two most important qualities in our elected officials: Competence, and Character.

Let’s go to competence first:

In late March, 2012, former US Ambassador to Libya, Gene Cretz, calls for additional security assets from Secretary of State Clinton. These were ignored.

On April 4th, terrorists threw an IED over the consulate wall; on June 6th, terrorist blow a large hole in the consulate gate.

On June 15 Charlene Lamb, the Deputy Assistant Secretary responsible for embassy security, tells the staff in Libya that the existing security team contract would not be renewed.

On the 9th of July, Newly appointed Ambassador Christopher Stevens requests an additional 13 security personnel, citing the increasingly dangerous situation on the ground. On August 2nd he sends an urgent cable to Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, requesting a ‘protective detail bodyguard;’ three days later the State Department orders the removal of Ambassador Stevens existing SST – his security team – and by the 8th of August his SST has left Libya.

On August 16th, the Regional Security Officer sends an email to Secretary of State Clinton, warning of a dire security situation in Libya.

On September 10th, top Al Qaeda leader Ayman Al Zawahiri calls for Libyans to avenge the death of his secretary, and on the next day, September 11th, 2012, Ambassador Stevens sends a final warning about lax security.

Later that day, he would be captured, tortured, raped and killed, his body then dragged through the streets. His last, unsigned journal entry was another complaint about his security situation.

Now, once the attack started, we switch focus from the competence of the Secretary of State to that of the Commander in Chief. All teams are local times in Washington DC, September 11th, 2012:

3:59 pm: The Defense Department orders an unmanned surveillance drone vectored to the consulate in response to first word of the attack.

4:05 pm: A State Department email officially notifies the Pentagon and the White House of the attack.

By 5:00 pm Eastern time, President Obama, Vice President Biden and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta are in the White House, and ten minutes later, the surveillance drone arrives overhead, providing real-time imagery of the events in Benghazi.

At 5:40 pm the request for FEST – the Foreign Emergency Support Team, a counter-terrorist unit specifically trained to rapidly respond to exactly these kinds of situations -- was officially refused by the State Department. CBS reporter Sheryl Attkisson, who left CBS when they would not cover the story, reported on May 17th of 2014 that a FEST counter-terrorism response was ruled out by the White House from the start, to the “puzzlement” – if not the outright despair – of State and Defense Department officials.

At 6:06 pm a State Department email said that the terrorist group Ansar al-Sharia claimed credit for the attack – within three hours of the first shots being fired.

By 8:00pm Eastern, Deputy Chief of the Libya Mission, Gregory Hicks, phones Hilary Clinton and tells her unequivocally that the Consulate in Benghazi was hit by a terrorist attack.

Two hours later, at around 10 pm. Clinton and Obama discuss the situation by phone, at about the same time as former SEALS Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods were killed on the roof of the annex by enemy fire, six hours after the first shots were fired. They had been fighting, alone, under the eyes of the surveillance drone, for two and a half hours.

At 10:30 that evening, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton publically blames “inflammatory material on the internet” for the attacks.

Three days later, on September 15th, CNN’s Arwa Damon finds Ambassador Stevens diary, quote, "on the floor of the largely unsecured consulate compound where [Stevens] was fatally wounded." It, like the rest of the sensitive, classified documents, had not yet been secured three full days after the attack.

Alright. So much for competence. Now to character.

On September 12th, the State Department’s Elizabeth Jones prepared a summary of talks with the Libyan ambassador which concluded that Benghazi had been a terrorist attack.

On September 13th, White House spokesman Jay Carney blamed the attack on an obscure internet video, posted months before, on YouTube.

On the 14th, the first draft of an internal State Department memo blamed terrorists. 24 hours and twelve drafts later, it would be changed to place the blame of the attack on the internet video. Also on the 14th, standing with Hilary Clinton and the returning coffins, President Obama again blamed the internet video, while Secretary Clinton told Charles Woods, father of slain Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods, quote, “We will make sure that the person who made that film is arrested and prosecuted.”

On the 15th, President Obama once again blamed the video for the violence.

On the 16th, then UN Ambassador Susan Rice blamed the attack on the video, backed up the next day by a State Department official.

On the 18th, Carney again blamed the video for the violence. On the 19th he repeated the claim that there was no evidence the attack had been pre-planned. On the 20th, both Carney and President Obama blamed the video, and the White House on that same day spends $70,000 airing apology ads for the video.

Finally, on September 21st – a full ten days after the attack – Secretary of State Clinton finally publically admits what she had been told three hours after the shooting started: it was a terrorist attack. But that didn’t stop the President from announcing to the UN, three days later on the 25th, that the internet video was to blame, adding, 'The Future Must Not Belong To Those Who Slander the Prophet of Islam.”

On September 27th – the man who made the video that both President Obama and Secretary Clinton blamed for the attack, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, was placed under arrest for parole violations, and served almost a year in prison.

The President of the United States, as Commander in Chief of our armed forces and the man ultimately responsible for the safety of Americans at home and abroad, is given a daily intelligence briefing. It is short and to the point, outlining the major developing threats of the day.

On September 6th, 2012, -- five days before the attack -- President Obama missed that briefing, but he did give a speech to the Democratic National Convention calling Mitt Romney inexperienced in foreign affairs. On September 7th, he did not attending the briefing, as he was campaigning. On the 8th, the President elected not to attend his daily intelligence briefing. On September 9th, President Obama decided not to attend his daily intelligence briefing. Nor did he attend it on the 10th. On September 11th, 2012, the eleventh anniversary of the attacks on New York, Washington and Pennsylvania, the President declined to attend his daily intelligence briefing. For six consecutive days prior to the Benghazi attacks, the President of the United States placed his campaign schedule ahead of his duty as Commander in Chief to remain informed of the critical intelligence issues of the day.

On August 9th, 1974, Richard Nixon resigned as President of the United States to avoid impeachment, for his role in the cover-up of a petty burglary at the Watergate complex in which no one was killed or wounded. He was threatened with impeachment because he lied to the American people.

President Obama lied to the American people, and the World, for ten days after an event that cost four American lives, including that of the sitting Ambassador who repeatedly called for help, and those of the two men who ran toward, not away from, the sound of gunfire to protect their country and their people.

This President lied to the American people, and so did his presumptive heir, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, who also lied to Congress. This matters. Benghazi matters. It shines a direct light and unflattering light on the competence and character of the President and the Secretary of State, and we, the American people have not only a right but an obligation to hold them accountable for their actions.
