This is wonderful, Roger! I am speechless, I lack the words to thank you.

I think that this is a rather special self portrait.

This is a self portrait by

Rolinda Sharples

(1794 – 1838) and this portrait dates from 1820

File:Rolinda-Sharples-selfportrait-ca1820.jpg

.

Rolinda's parents were artists and this is her mother at her shoulder.

Rolinda became one of the most successful female artists living in the provinces of England in the 19th century.

She lived in Bath and this painting is to be found neartby in the City of Brisol Museum and Art Gallery.

It is good to know that female artists existed and excelled at that time when their general opportunities were very limited.

Personal note:

I think that the person in the picture behind Rolinda is too her mother. What do you think?

HI Roger,

I think this is very good. Yes I too would think it is her mother, with interested look.
I like the looks on both their faces, very pleasant.

Yes Roger and Myrna,

All considered, the painting nears perfection, so to speak. I love every detail in it. She obviously was a most talented artist. England has been so prodigal in artists and most especially painters. A never ending source of inspiration for all people who love art.

I will say it again, Roger: you are so fortunate to have been born and live there.

You may know Piet Mondrian by his most celebrated coloured squares and lines (see sample at foot of post)

PIET MONDRIAN

(1872 - 1918)

Self Portrait 1918

.

A rare self-likeness of the Dutch artist widely recognised by 1924 as being at the forefront of the international avant garde is seen here in front of an early example of his abstract line and colour work.

Here is an example of his work.
