SiteAdvisor Announces Pending Launch of Innovative Web Safety Product
BOSTON, December 1, 2005 - SiteAdvisor, a consumer software company dedicated to protecting Internet users from a variety of Web-based security threats and nuisances, today revealed its innovative approach to Web safety and announced plans for a public launch in early 2006.
SiteAdvisor uses an easy-to-understand rating system to help Internet users stay safe as they search, browse and transact online. Among the many security threats and nuisances which SiteAdvisor's ratings disclose and help prevent are spyware, adware, spam, viruses, browser-based attacks, phishing, online fraud and identity theft.
At the core of SiteAdvisor's ratings is a massive proprietary database containing test results from millions of automated Web site visits, download installations, and e-mail registrations. SiteAdvisor's automated tests will be supplemented by feedback from Web site users, comments from Web site owners and input from SiteAdvisor analysts. SiteAdvisor accepts no compensation from tested Web sites, thus ensuring that ratings are objective and uniformly applied. The result is a rich, multifaceted, uncensored and constantly improving Web site advisory system which consumers can trust.
SiteAdvisor began operations in April 2005 and is headquartered in Boston, MA. The company's initial investors include Bessemer Venture Partners, General Catalyst Partners and several angel investors - including early investors in both Google and Skype. SiteAdvisor begins a preview version of its software on December 1, 2005 and will launch publicly in early 2006.
