Myrna,

I don't know how it is in USA, in Russia oat seeds purchased in stores that sell animal feed.

Now it possible to sow them on the windowsill.

On the field of oats are usually sown in the autumn, it is called winter-crop.

Hi Lydia,

I know one year I sown this because a friend told me it was good for the soil. In the spring you just turn it over. I guess that is why it is called winter-crop. I think it was also called winter wheat. But I remember it was oats seeds.

Myrna,

Yes, for the soil is also good, oats runs wireworm - pest and smothers weeds.

But also for the commercial cultivation of grain oats always sown before winter (here in Russia).

Myrna

Here in BC, we sowed winter rye. Then it was turned over to help the soil.
