Salvador Dali - Gala Contemplating the Corpus Hypercubicus
(
oil on canvas, 1954)

This is just delicious. That particular yellow that Dali used frequently is so good here.

This is not very kind to Gala but it has a wonderful human understanding.

In the male nude I love the water which has an edge to it. Such imagination and technique.

Hi Miguel,

Some of his paintings just make me laugh and am so amazed at his ideas, or thoughts. Like this one. Is that cool or what. Funny too.

Dear Roger, Myrna and Pat,

Thank you for the kind feedback. Those works you have just commented on are really extraordinary. One thing that seems to me especially noteworthy in both of them (and to be sure, in any of Dali's works) is the sheer amount of work involved - but of course, this is the trademark of a true master in their trade, whatever it is.

In effect, Daly would apparently never shy from doing anything necessary to make those works look just like he wanted them to look and, still more important, to make them say exactly what he wanted them to say (whatever it was, that is). For example, in his Apparition of Face and Fruit Dish on a Beach, where in addition to the indispensable elements (face, dish, etc) he could have done without the multitude of little figures appearing behind the dish like a frieze, he nevertheless included them. Or in his Gala Contemplating the Corpus Hypercubicus, where he clearly delighted in elaborately painting Gala's hairdress, the yellow shawl, and even Gala's withered hand languidly holding it.

Thanks again,

Miguel

Three exquisite works, each in their own style, from the seventy's. Though unfinished, Three Graces of Canova is hugely appealing

Salvador Dali - Palace of the Winds (oil and collage on canvas,
circa 1972-73)

Salvador Dali - Searching for the Fourth Dimension
(
oil on wood,1979)

Salvador Dali - Three Graces of Canova (unfinished)
(oil on copper, 1979)

Inspired in Las Meninas by Diego Velazquez, these beautiful masterpieces evidence Dali's admiration for the great Spanish painter from the seventeeth century.

Salvador Dali - The Pearl (oil on canvas, 1981)

Salvador Dali - Don Jose Nieto Velazquez from "Las Meninas" by Velazquez
Museo Del Prado, Madrid (oil on canvas,
1982)
