Salvador Dali - Board of Demented Associations (Fireworks)
(oil on embossed tin,
circa 1931) (1)

This fun as well as informative.

A box of demented delights would be another apt name.

We will never know all of the associations intended but its fun guessing and we can admire once again the presentation and composition.

Not immediately recogniseable as a Dali.

I just had an idea, do you think Salvador Dali had a weird childhood? So I am guessing, huh! It is fun to wonder who, why and how these paintings came about.

Myrna,

I think that you are right, however, his adult life was even weirder.

Myrna,

Dali claimed to have dreamed many of his images. He sometimes wanted to shock or make people guress. He had a strange mind, was very vain and loved personal attention.

From these things he had a lot of choices.

However, his ability to paint just what he wanted was evident.

Hi and welcome, Pat. Regarding your question, I just found this on the Internet:

Dali said he didn't use (or need) drugs;
“I do not take drugs. I am drugs.”

Towards the end of his life Gala (his wife) dosed him with non-prescribed medicines;
"Dali suffered a devastating deterioration of the nervous system in 1980 as a result of Gala, 11 years his senior, regularly giving him a mixture of drugs that were not prescribed to him. After she died in 1982, Dali apparently lost his will to live and possibly attempted suicide a few times."

And once again I must agree with you, Roger: Dali could certainly paint just what he wanted.
