Hi Linda,
Did I tell you I enjoyed visiting your site?
http://www.LindaCaroll.com Very nicely done - very professional.
...The key - is getting back up.
Well said. I once worked with a man who knew how to get up, in my (forgive me) door-to-door insurance sales days, who told me the story of a young man he worked with once. At the end of the day, when they met at the office, the young man told him that he had a terrible day. Someone had insulted him!
My friend said to him, "Hmmmm... I've been knocked down, punched, yelled at, kicked, had the door slammed in my face, called names, had dogs sicked on me, threatened, and sworn at.... but for the life of me, I can't ever remember someone insulting me!!"
That man REALLY knew how to get back up! And he made a great living, too.
It is so true that molly-coddling someone isn't going to help them grow - it may make them like you in the short term, but sooner or later they might realize that you're just trying to make yourself look good and you're not doing them an ounce of good!
Speaking of animal stories, I really enjoyed a scene from Walt Disney's, "The Lion King." (OK, I enjoyed the whole movie! :) )
In the scene, the old baboon witch doctor whacked the lion over the head with a big stick. The lion yelled, "What did you do that for?!"
The old baboon said, "Doesn't matter! It's in the past!"
That's the way we need to look at life when we get knocked down. We need to scramble quickly to our feet so we can look ahead and say of our tumble, "It doesn't matter! It's in the past!"
God bless,
Dave
