The Pilgrim’s Race
By Rev. Dean Beaty 4/26/12
Hebrews 11:13 “These all died in faith, not having received
the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded
of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers
and pilgrims on the earth.” (KJV)
To the unsaved, this world is their home.
It makes no difference wherever they roam.
Here or in England, Ireland or Japan.
Russia, Germany or even Saipan.
But we are aliens here on this earth.
This is true, if you’ve had the New Birth.
Once born again, heaven is our home.
Thus the reason for writing this poem.
Don’t put roots down here in this place.
Roots are an anchor to running life’s race.
Running unhindered should be our goal.
For the love of this world will take its toll.
Lay aside the weights that so easily beset. *
This is God’s warning we should never forget.
Heaven is our home, so run well the race.
Christ is the goal, there to look on His face.
So run like a pilgrim what ever you do.
And unto the calling of Jesus be true.
To hear Christ say, “My son, well done”
Then we will know, life’s race we have won.
* Hebrews 12:1-2 “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about
with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and
the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the
race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher
of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross,
despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
(KJV)
