Dear friends,

I would like to show now a few master works by Thomas Cole that I find to be extraordinarily dramatic and beautiful. Let me start
please with these two.

Thomas Cole - The Departure (oil on canvas, 1837)

Thomas Cole - The Arrival (oil on canvas, 1837)

Now these other two highly contrasting works...

Thomas Cole - View from Mount Holyoke, Northampton, Massachusetts,
after a Thunderstorm -
The Oxbow (oil on canvas, 1836)

Thomas Cole - View in the White Mountains (oil on canvas, 1827)

Finally, the epitome of drama with these two awe-inspiring works.

Hugs,

Miguel

(oil on canvas, 1827)

Very dramatic Miguel.

I need time to look at these.

The castle in the first one reminds me so much of Arundel Castle only 20 miles from my home town.

Hello Roger and friends,

I have come to admire Thomas Cole so deeply! Not only for his wonderful paintings but also for inspiring other great artists into his great cruzade for a romantic view of art and nature. Granted that many of his followers were also great artists who would no doubt
have excelled on their own, but I am sure their productivity increased from his stimulus and inspiration.

In my next post I will show some of their artwork. The trio of great painters I have selected were brilliant too as Thomas Cole himself was, with their masterpieces also favorably comparing with those of the great English painters of the Romantic period.

Hugs,

Miguel
