Hello Evelyn

Neat video!

I, too, was raised in the country on a farm. When Dad bought his first new GMC truck, he took the motor out of the Ford Model T he had been driving and he used the motor to saw wood by putting a big circular saw on it.

I guess he salvaged some pieces from the old Model T but he discarded the rest in the trees behind our house. I wonder if the current owners of the farm ever found the pieces and if they knew what they were. I am sure they would have been rusted but apparently the Model T's did not rust very fast.

I cringe everytime I think of how much 'money' he threw away when he threw away that old car. Money was important to Dad. If he had only known how much that old car could have brought him by keeping it only another 20 years ....but alas.

I don't remember ever seeing a picture of that old car.

This video you posted reminded me of all the wood we used to saw and what a mundane job it was. I, too, remember splitting wood by hand with an ax. We sure could have used a wood splitter like the one in the video. Dad used to sell wood in the city. He would load up a cord, split or unsplit, in his GMC truck and take it to town 30 miles away. We also used wood in our wood stove and heaters so we did a lot of wood in our time. The only thing I remember about the wood is that it was a lot of work for us kids. Today, I think about how we wasted that old Model T.

The Model T brings to my memory when my 3rd brother was born. We all piled into the Model T and we brought Mom and the new baby home from the hospital. I was so excited. I couldn't wait to get home to take care of this baby. I was 12 at the time. My 2nd oldest brother was not impressed. He had just enjoyed 6 years being the youngest and he spent most of that time home alone with my parents as me and my oldest brother were in school all day; it was like being an only child. Now this brother was going to crimp his style. To get home we had to drive through an Indian reserve. He said we should stop and give the baby to the Indians.

Hi Evelyn

This is a pet peeve of mine also. My English is not always correct either but I hope it is not as bad as that in your post.

It seems there was a teacher way back in the 1800,s or something who didn't teach proper usage of the English language. Then like yeast, it infected the North American continent over the years, especially in the US ...sort of like evolution :))

It reminds me of one time when I joined a little interesting program. It started out with, "Now Here This!". Then much to my chagrin, someone put together a similar program a couple of months later and they shamelessly used all the exact same wording as the other guy's program. You guessed it. They even started out with, "Now Here This!" They didn't even change the "Here".

I'm not saying my use of the written English language is always correct but the way some people murder it is a big pet peeve with me and I see it more and more and from people that should know better. Evidently they do not realize that their choice of words can change the whole meaning of what they're trying to convey.
Here's a list of some of the top incorrect words being used....

For those that don't know proper grammar and mix these up, you're welcome. Regram from @jimmiemcguire

This video was quite helpful. When I first read the title of the video, I wasn't so sure I would learn something from someone who misspelled 'notifications' especially since it was plastered all over the FB portion he was explaining ...but then I found he did a good job of explaining things. That'll teach me for pre-judging. Just maybe there are things more important than grammar and spelling.

I agree with you Helen. Everyone should learn better English and present themselves better when communicating. Goes back to what did you learn in school, from your parents, community ...

Thank you, Linda. We haven't heard from you for a long time. Don't be a stranger.

It's amazing I can speak English and write it as well as I do. I was raised on a farm 2 miles from the nearest neighbor. School was 4 miles away. My parents had Grade 4 and Grade 6 education. Our community was of the same caliber. What we were taught in school was better than what we see children being taught today, however. I don't remember hearing about evolution, for example, until I left home.

There for the grace of God there go I. I loved learning and going to school. I learned quickly. I even skipped a grade. I was very fortunate unlike my brother who hated school and learning. The point I am trying to make is that we are not all as fortunate as another in a given area of life. I might have been good at learning but my brother, for example, was good at other things. There was a couple of kids in our classes who had a very hard time with spelling, for example, but they seem to have gotten through life ok. So what if a person can't spell; there's always someone close by who can so you just get him/her to help you out. One day there will be something you cannot do and they will give you a helping hand.

We have to be careful that we don't put someone down for their shortcomings just to puff ourselves up. I have run into that more times than I care to remember where someone would put me down in an effort to pump themselves up. That is selfish, rude and ignorant and sometimes ruthless. They don't seem to realize that that kind of thing really works against them.
We all have enough good things going for us that we don't need to put someone down to show what kind of stuff we are made of. <<< See how I just ended that sentence with a prepositon. :))
