Thank you so much Lydia, I will definitely try it now that I finally found the website that tells how to convert recipes from metric. I've read over the years that borscht is very healthy.

From THE FOOD LOVER'S COMPANION, 2nd edition, by Sharon Tyler Herbst, Barron's Educational Services, Inc.

1/4 teaspoon= 1.23 milliliters
1/2 teaspoon= 2.46 milliliters
3/4 teaspoon= 3.7 milliliters
1 teaspoon= 4.93 milliliters
1 1/4 teaspoons= 6.16 milliliters
1 1/2 teaspoons= 7.39 milliliters
1 3/4 teaspoons= 8.63 milliliters
2 teaspoons = 9.86 milliliters
1 tablespoon = 14.79 milliliters
2 tablespoons = 29.57 milliliters
1/4 cup = 59.15 milliliters
1/2 cup= 118.3 milliliters
1 cup = 236.59 milliliters
2 cups or 1 pint = 473.18 milliliters
3 cups = 709.77 milliliters
4 cups or 1 quart = 946.36 milliliters
4 quarts or 1 gallon=3.785 liters

Thanks Lydia, this recipe looks and sounds delicious too but unlike Helen I happen to like sauerkraut.

Hi Evelyn, Helen and all,

If you're interested, here is the recipe Russian soup from cabbage sauerkraut - shchi:

In Russia sauerkraut has become a national custom.

The most famous Russian dish of pickled cabbage - is, of course, sour soup.

Usually soup in Russia boiled water with the addition of beef or pork fat. In the summer of flavored roots and herbs, put a handful of winter cereals.

Ing is typical for Russian density - they "spoon should stand up": for satiety, they are usually made bold, and to mute the taste of fat sour cabbage soup lent a touch of adding the sauerkraut.

In times Domostroi soup with pleasure not only ate for lunch - prepared them for breakfast and dinner, and Skoromnov and fast days.

Soup and served as a festive dish, but they were then prepared in a special way: from the different types of meat with dried or fresh mushrooms, with a lot of roots.

A pot of cabbage soup daily covered tortilla dough that forms a crisp, retains all the flavors.

The next day, put the pot in a hot oven, and only warmed up before serving.

Cabbage Sauerkraut - shchi:

500 g of beef

300 g sauerkraut

600 grams of potatoes

200 g of carrots

200 g onionssalt and pepper to tastebay leaf

4 liter potWash the meat,

cover with water, bring to a boil, remove the foam and cook for an hour or until tender.

If you like tenderized meat for soup using beef, it is best to boil it on low heat for about 2 hours.

Peel the potatoes and cut into small cubes.

Onion peel and finely chop and fry.

Carrots peeled and cut into fine strips or rub on a coarse grater, add to the onions and continue to saute.

In the boiling broth to put the potatoes.

Boil for about 5 minutes.

Then put the carrots and onion, add the bay leaf and peppercorns.

Boil for about 10 minutes. Add salt to taste.Add to sauerkraut soup (if the cabbage is very acidic, you can rinse it under water).

Cook for about half an hour.

I found this article VERY interesting and hope you all do too.

Ask A…Feng Shui Consultant

What Is Feng Shui?

According to Barrett, a misconception
about Feng Shui is that it is a religion. "It is absolutely not a religion," she explains. "Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art of arranging your surroundings in a way that makes you feel happy and healthy and motivated. And it can bring you success and abundance." Barrett says that Feng Shui can change both how you feel and how you are going to attract new things into your life.

"We have an energetic attachment to everything we own," says Barrett. "Each object either increases our energy or decreases it. If you have enough in your home that's pulling your energy down, making you feel bad on a subconscious level, it can really affect you in a negative way."

What Is Your Job?

A Feng Shui consultant will come into your home and ask you questions about your life and about the space. Then, says Barrett, he or she will give you recommendations for your home. These suggestions may include updates to furniture arrangements, color, and plants. "It's a lot about how your home feels and the psychology of your space," she says.

Getting Started

To get started with Feng Shui, says Barrett, clear your clutter and bring plants, flowers, and other natural items into your home. She says these things will energize you and create a relaxation response within you. "Don't have dried flowers, dead plants, or potpourri," she adds, noting that those things represent dead energy. She also says to open the windows and shades in your home to bring in the natural light. "And really you should love everything in your home. You shouldn't just tolerate it."

Other tips from Jayme Barrett:

• Mirrors can reflect negative energy and push it away.
• Your stove represents prosperity, so keep it in working condition and use all the burners "because that will bring lots of money into your life."
• Keep your bed against a solid wall so you feel grounded.

Finally, says Barrett, "One of the most surprising tips that people might not know is that you should Feng Shui your bathroom. Water represents prosperity and abundance. So when you're flushing the toilet you're literally flushing money energy down the toilet." Keep your toilet seat down and your bathroom door closed.

Why Feng Shui?

"The main thing I would love the world to know about Feng Shui is that it's easy, and you shouldn't be scared of it," says Barrett. "Everyone should use Feng Shui because we could all use more energy in our lives."
