Hi Evelyn and friends,

I don't know if you know about this, but here is a story that has been circulating all over the Internet for the last couple of days.

Hugs,

Mansion servant enslaved by uber-rich New York family for nearly six years

A wealthy New York woman is facing criminal charges after being accused of keeping an illegal immigrant as an indentured servant and forcing her to live in a closet for nearly six years.

Documents posted on the Smoking Gun allege that Annie George, 39, and her now-deceased husband, Mathai Kolath George, hired an illegal immigrant from the Indian state of Kerala. The immigrant, identified only as "V.M.," was promised about $1,000 a month in wages to live in the family's 34-room, 30,000-square-foot home, known as Llenroc mansion, which houses a helicopter pad, 15 fireplaces, marble flooring, 24-karat gold gilded ceilings and a glass elevator. V.M. was tasked with taking care of the Georges' four young children, along with performing household duties in the mansion located about 20 miles north of Albany.

New York's minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. Even if V.M. had been allowed to leave the residence at the end of a regular 40-hour workweek, she would have been entitled to a minimum, pretax income of $290 per week, or $1,160 per month.

Instead, the "forced labor situation" (as described in the court papers) was even worse than the already-below minimum wage offer of $1,000 month. V.M. received 85 cents an hour, working 17-hour days, seven days a week, over the 67 months she was kept inside the George residence.

All told, V.M. received only about $29,000 over the five and a half years she was forced to work for the George family.

The Smoking Gun reports that immigration agents received a tip from the National Human Trafficking Resource Center last year and removed V.M. from the George's property. The U.S. Department of Labor conducted its own investigation and says V.M. is entitled to $206,000 in back wages. She was also allegedly denied health benefits, sick days or any personal time off from her labors.

Annie George, whose husband died in a plane crash in 2009, reportedly called V.M.'s son three times, suggesting he "tell his mother to tell authorities that she was a relative of George's family and was only staying at George's house as a guest." However, V.M.'s son recorded the calls, which included a plea from Annie George, "If she says anything about working, it would become a big crime. They'll start adding up all the taxes and everything, for all the time."

According to the Smoking Gun documents, the George estate had been put up for sale for a reported $30 million. However, an astute Sideshow reader points out that Llenroc sold for a "meager" $1.9 million in 2009.

Annie George appeared in court on Wednesday before a federal magistrate, facing charges of encouraging and inducing an illegal alien to reside in the U.S.

10_1_136.gifHow many mansions are still out there that are doing the same thing? Human trafficking is about the worse crime imaginable, but carries the lightest sentence. The victim is scarred for life. Plus, Annie George is being tried on an even lesser crime. The rich people will never face charges that are equal to their crimes because the rich take care of each other. She should also be tried in India as the woman was a citizen of that country.
GOD BLESS YOU

Hi Amanda

You're right. It's like voting for this communist or that communist like they did in the Soviet Union. That's just one reason for getting rid of the party system. Remember when the communist party had an election? They would vote for one or the other of the communists?

The party system must have been instigated by the Big Corporations because the system plays right into their agendas. It is much easier for them to deal with 2 or 3 parties than to have to deal with each individual politician.

I just had to get that in there ...to plant a seed, if you will :)) I'd like people to think about this and come to their own conclusions, if any.

About the singer sounding like Johnny Cash. He sure does. It reminds me of when I was a young woman. I used to out with a fellow who sang just like Johnny Cash. He didn't look like him but I just had to close my eyes and it was like Johnny Cash was in the room.

Helen,
I thought this singer sounded so very much like the late Johnny Cash and a great impersonation of his singing, and I also reckon the young Johnny could have sung this song as he was an activist and a bit of a rebel in his day..LOL
Both of these parties are exactly the same, just different arguments to make us think they are different.. Then watch when, which ever party gets in then the opposition argues they have ruined the country etc..
I use to notice this tactic back in NZ and couldn't for the life of me understand why they would not just do the business they were voted into for representing their voters instead of arguing the point with each other - my late parents use to say to me, 'that is the Government for you' - which wasn't really an answer and they probably had no idea back then either.. Now I understand, it is not about being in the Government for the people but for themselves and the Banks that own the Govt and what they can get out of it.
I like Ron Paul and I support him. Enough said as I do not want to turn this thread into a political platform on the whoms and whys..

Good one, Amanda!

The only problem is the Republicans aren't all that much better. And I'm not sure about Ron Paul. It would have been real interesting to have seen Ralph Nader be president.

One thing he said when he ran in the last couple of elections is he would get rid of the party system with no parties allowed. Every one running for government would run as an independent. That makes a lot of sense when you think about it. The parties were formed, in my opinion, to gang up against the people. People should vote for the man or woman, not the party. At least, that's what I do.

Aaaaaaaw, c'mon, Amanda. Just let it all hang out. I want to see you strut your stuff. Don't we, everybody!

You realize that this Naked Saturday was probably a ploy thought up by some man or men so they could get the women to take their clothes off.

It reminds me of one time when I took my daughter and her friend, Nicole for a bite at McD's. A guy ran through the front door to the back door wearing nothing but his boots and his winkie flopping in the breeze. I picked up one Nicole's limp potato chips and dangled it and said, "This is the streaker's winkie." Then I put it back with the rest of her chips. She loudly said, "I'm not eating that!"
