Hi Evelyn and friends,

This article below caught my eye in the morning and while I am not sure about the zombies, the main subject seemed to me hugely important (not only a joke, ha ha) since it could explain so many things.

Hugs,

Miguel

P.S. Once again dear Evelyn, let me please thank you for all your kind comments on my recordings.

Plants Can Reduce Crime, Prevent Zombie Attacks

Written by Ramon Gonzalez

The positive effects of gardens on property values are well-known. What most people may not know is the benefit of plants and gardens on reducing crime.

Instead of obsessively checking the EveryBlock website for the latest occurrences of crime in your neighborhood, why not plant a garden?

According to this video, studies from both the U.S. and Japan show that planting plants can reduce crime by as much as 80%.

Whether you’re looking at property crime, violent crime, or total crimes — these benefits can’t be ignored. The video, brought to my attention by Ellen Wells on Twitter, was created by Grower Talks to promote America in Bloom‘s Discover Plants program that is hoping to get us to look at plants differently.

You can download an America in Bloom PDF brochure or PowerPoint that will give you more ideas, and a better of understanding of how you can make “pretty” plants work to enhance just about every aspect of your life.

Perhaps you’re one of those people that are more concerned with zombie attacks than with burglars. Well, plants can help you out there too, as explained by this video from Lancaster Farms on YouTube.

Hi Evelyn
It has been a couple of days since I was over here last..trying to catch up.
I had never heard of the Hager Twins but I did enjoy the videos you shared and was quite surprised they died so young with a year between. Country lost two great entertainers.

Does anyone remember the Hager twins - Jon and Jim from Hee Haw? For some reason I missed their passing on and just now learned of it.
According to Wikipedia, Jim Hager died of an apparent heart attack on May 1, 2008 in Nashville, Tennessee and Jon died in his sleep on January 9, 2009, also in Nashville.
Here is a tribute video to Jon and Jim Hager:

Hello Lydia,
Now these look more the size and thickness of pancakes I am use to seeing growing up and when I make them myself which is not very often.
I had a wonderful friend whom grew up in the Netherlands and immigrated to NZ whom made her country's style pancake which she filled then rolled into a cylinder - I cannot recall what fruit or how she did the fruit now as it is so long ago, I just remember how tasty the pancakes were.
Pancakes seem to be a very universal dish. Does anyone know where it originated from?

Hello Mary Evelin and visitors!

Today is the last day of the Pancake week! I wait You on pancakes!

Масленица! Жду на блины!

Масленица – Pancake week - a holiday of pancakes and other Russian-national medicines. Well and if it is serious, that, a pancake week - the slavic holiday, got to us in the inheritance from the pagan culture, kept and after acceptance of christianity. The pancake week is necessary for a week previous the Great post. The pancake week is, first of all, plentiful and nourishing food, and also round dances, songs, dancings, games.

In a traditional life always was considered, that the person who has lead Pancake Week badly and boringly, it will be unlucky within all year.

So drink, eat, cheerfully see off winter, burn down a scarecrow and be happy!!!

By the way, whether you know, what today, Feb, 26th, 2012 is the day when it is easy to stop to smoke?

It is necessary to leave tonight on a table an empty pack from cigarettes, on it - an empty box from matches and a note: " I do not smoke! ". And tomorrow, on Feb, 27th, 2012 - you will not want to smoke any more! The maximum forces will help!

Hi Miguel, what an intriguing article. Now I really don't think the zombie thing applies to me, but I'm sure I have some friends who would disagree. :) As far as the thorny shrubbery I can see how that might deter a burglar but now there is one shrub with thorns that I just love and that is the one that grows the long stemmed red roses, my favorite flower. :)

In all honesty though I love to see well manicured lawns and well tended plants and shrubbery and find that quite soothing and I could also see how getting someone involved in gardening could have a very positive effect.

And Miguel, you're more than welcome, just keep bringing us those songs because I'm not the only one on here who enjoys them, I can assure you. Hope you have a marvelous week.

Hi Miguel
Interesting article. I know a few of these and have used them before, but wanted to include my remedy for a wart that I had on my collarbone. I used nail polish and added polish each day, the 3rd day that wart itched like crazy as it could not get any air and by the end of the week it was gone and no scare left either.
For sore throats I have put in 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 teaspoon Baking Soda and 1 teaspoon salt in a glass of hot water as I can gargle with. This has always relieved my sore throat within a couple of hours that it has gone.
Rubbing Vicks vapour rub on the soles of you feet helps immensely with coughing at night. Tried on my husband and it worked..
