I also want to learn to knit or crochet, there are lots of youtube videos and also books on how to learn (search on Amazon.com) some of the tutorials may take some time & study, I've purchased jewelry-making books where some of the graphics are sideways or upside-down and it takes awhile of comparing the written directions and turning the book a certain way to study the graphics and get things going. I've been making jewelry for a few years, and you're right about having a hobby that keeps us so busy that it cuts down on bad habits such as overeating!
