Luis, Beautiful images.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to see the originals?

Nearly all in Russia.

This is very different.

Do you know the history or details about this painting.

HI Luis,

The more you post of Nicholas Roerich paintings the better they get.

Jill would love this one. Sound really good for the Mountain of Love. What do you think?

Hugs,
Myrna

Hello Roger,

Your question took me by surprise but I will try to answer to the best of my knowledge. To Nicholas Roerich, the "Enemy of Mankind" was the destroyer of culture; there have been many along history. For many years he was sort of obsessed with this theme. He had traveled across ancient cities of Russia with his wife in the early 1900s and painted many churches and monuments there that were later destroyed or disfigured by war barons and only remain in his paintings. This inspired him to create a Pact or treaty of Protection of Artistic and Scientific Institutions and Historic Monuments that was ratified by ten nations: United States, eight South American countries and India, but unfortunately no further action was adopted by any of them.

He even wrote an allegorical book, titled Shamballa, describing his dreams about this sinister, demonic character (you may read about it here: http://www.roerich-izvara.ru/eng/roerich/shambhala-30.htm).

I have also told you about N. Roerich being considered a Prophet of his time and his fears previous to World War I. Not that you need to really be a prophet to predict evil developments on our planet, they are cyclic in their nature and will come and go any way. In addition, he seems to have been an assiduous reader of the Book of Revelation, where this recurring nature can be clearly perceived. At any rate, he acted based on his dreams and visions and still better, he wrote and painted depicting them for all to see. Really, if there has been a man who can be called a Prophet of our time, that man was Nicholas Roerich. Another was René Guénon; I believe I also have told you about him. But like all other real prophets, they would not be listened to by his contemporaries.

Big Hugs,

Miguel
