Series of morning quakes off southern Oregon coast includes a 5.6

Updated at 8:55 a.m. to include more earthquakes:

Eleven earthquakes ranging from 2.8 to 5.6 magnitudes were reported off Oregon's southern coast Tuesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quakes, on average, were clustered about 126 miles west of Crescent City, California. No tsunami warnings were announced.

Don Blakeman, a geophysicist at the National Earthquake Information Center, said the magnitudes haven't yet been serious, adding that quakes of this caliber occur fairly often off the coast.

Though the 5.6, which happened at 7:44 a.m., qualifies as a moderate earthquake, the impacts would be more significant if it had occurred on land rather than 10 kilometers under the sea, Blakeman said.

Smaller earthquakes and aftershocks will likely continue in the area through the morning, he said, adding that he doesn't anticipate a larger magnitude will come along and trump the 5.6.

Tsunami concerns don't usually come into play until at least a magnitude 7 is recorded, he said.

The earthquakes happened on the Juan de Fuca tectonic plate, which will likely be the source of a massive earthquake in the Portland and Seattle area in the future, but Blakeman said the rumblings Tuesday morning were nothing to worry about.

ISIS kidnappings soar in Iraq, despite declared victory over militants, but ‘media stays silent’

Despite the Western Coalition declaring victory over Islamic State in Iraq last year, the militants’ activity is surging. More Iraqis are kidnapped every month, as state media stays silent, a government security adviser told RT.

The Western Coalition declared Iraq “completely liberated” from Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) in December, but the militants’ activities didn’t cease – in fact, they are surging, with more Iraqis getting abducted and murdered by terrorists, Hisham al-Hashimi said.

The number of Iraqis kidnapped by IS doubled since May, but the state media is staying silent. Al-Hashimi explained to RT that by doing so, the government hopes to not “spread panic and hinder the rescue efforts.”

IS militants don’t seem to be leaving anytime soon, as they continue menacing locals with hit-and-run attacks and assassinations. The government is struggling to weed out the jihadists, who are hiding in remote mountainous areas.

“The special forces don’t have enough resources to hunt the militants down,” al-Hashimi said.

RT’s Murad Gazdiev takes a look at how the terrorists have traded large-scale operations for the “basics.”

"Perfect storm": UK farming crisis as areas suffer worst drought for 225 years

Cracks in the ground on Hampstead Heath, London, as the hot weather continues across the country.

Britain may be enjoying the summer sunshine now - but the weather could soon have upsetting consequences for the nation's farmers, who are struggling to save both their crops and their animals.

Soaring temperatures have led to a heatwave bringing prolonged dry spells, meaning while Brits basked on the beaches, farmers were manually carrying water to cattle to try to keep them hydrated, on the hottest day of the year so far, on Monday.

Greg Cotterell, of Bank Top farm in Fenny Bentley, said to The Derby Telegraph the well he was forced to manually dug up for his cows is only producing a quarter of what they need.

The drastic way to get water to them was necessary because of the water shortage in seven villages in the area, he revealed.

Cattle are used to grazing on green grass with plenty of water but the drought conditions across the country are causing major problems for farmers

Andrew Webster, who runs a Jersey and Guernsey in nearby Ashbourne requested a water tanker to help his cattle.

However, his request was refused by supplier Severn Trent.

Robert Martin, a dairy farmer with a 120-strong herd near Carlisle, told The Guardian there could be huge financial consequences for the farmers if milk yields fall as predicted.

Milk yields are likely to be down by about 15 to 20% the farmer said, however, there is yet to be cost implications for consumers.

While an amber warning was released by the Met Office advising people to stay away from the sunshine, farms were growing increasingly worried, praying for rain.

In the past month there have been a number of fires which have been caused by dry grass and soaring temperatures.

The drought conditions are not only affecting cattle, but crops, too.

Many parts of South and Midlands have had virtually no rainfall for almost two months - far exceeding the definition of 'absolute drought,' which is no measurable rainfall for 15 days.

This could mean 2018 has had the driest summer since 1766.

Comment: We're witnessing similar events to those experienced during the Little Ice Age of the 18th century; drought as well as epic flooding amidst overall global cooling:
Little Ice Age
The NASA Earth Observatory notes three particularly cold intervals: one beginning about 1650, another about 1770, and the last in 1850, all separated by intervals of slight warming.

There may now be a disastrous harvest on the way, coupled with a national carrot shortage.

Experienced carrot farmer Rodger Hobson says that the harsh spring and hot summer in the UK is causing a huge carrot shortage

The bright orange vegetable which adorns the traditional roast dinner is in jeopardy this year because of the current heatwave, it is claimed.

Rodger Hobson says there has been a 'perfect storm' of poor growing conditions after the wintry 'Beast from the East' was followed by record smashing temperatures and what could be Britain's driest summer for 225 years.

The lack of British-grown carrots could last up until June 2019 and force supermarkets to import the vegetable from abroad, the 54-year-old farmer has revealed.

Mr Hobson runs Hobson Farming on the outskirts of York which has seen it harvest 30 per cent fewer carrots than last year - which is likely to hit the Christmas dinner table hard.

Mr Hobson, chairman of the British Carrot Growers Association, said: 'It's the most serious I have ever seen it.

'We normally plant in March and April because the longer they are in the ground the more they grow.

'But because of the snow we didn't get them planted until the middle of May and it's not just the water shortage - it's also the temperatures.

'The optimum is 16C to 19C. It's 25C and the carrots just wilt.

'For the first time in four years we have not harvested for two weeks - you feel a bit useless.'

Other food which could be hit include barley.

Bisterne Estate in Ringwood, Hampshire, produces seed barley, milling wheat and biscuit rye.

This year, for the first time in 30 years, they began harvesting their 750 acres of arable land on June 28, two weeks earlier than normal.

Farm manager Martin Button says this is the earliest harvest there since 1976.

However, they are expecting a significantly reduced yield as the barley grain is much smaller than in a typical year, which was been attributed to the dry summer.

Mr Hobson, who has been farming carrots for 28 years, said the crisis will inevitably have an impact on prices as poor yields push up UK production costs and farmers are put under pressure.

Mr Hobson highlighted the Aldi Christmas marketing campaign, saying: 'Kevin the Carrot might be French this year - the only option will be bring carrots in from abroad.'

The UK traditionally grows about 97 per cent of its own carrots but Mr Hobson added: 'The British carrot growing industry is respected worldwide for its ability to produce fresh from the field carrots 52 weeks of the year.

'However, we have suffered the perfect storm of poor conditions this year. The damage is done, we are now halfway through the growing season.'

But it is not just carrot growers who have suffered - pea and lettuce crops have also been hit by the unusual weather.

With much of Europe experiencing the same weather, there could be a shortage of imported carrots too.

Mr Hobson warned consumers to expect price rises but urged them to continue to support British growers.

Hobson Farming is the UK's largest grower of carrots for the processing market producing more than 30,000 tonnes of carrots each year.
Britain consumes around 700,000 carrots a year, compared with 17 million consumed in China.

Documentary 'Germany's Bloody Secret': Politicians and arms manufacturers sell weapons to anyone

Heckler & Koch rifle weapons

Despite having one of the toughest gun export laws in the world, Germany enjoys a comfy place among the top weapon exporters. How is that possible? A newly released Redfish documentary has some of the answers.

"The laws are very strict and the practice is very-very leisure and very easy. Everyone was wondering how could it be that Germany has one of the strictest laws and always, depending on the ranking, is number three, in small arms is even number two of the biggest world arms trades and weapon producers? So, where's the gap?" lawyer Holger Rothbauer told the Germany-based investigative journalism team Redfish.

Rothbauer represents a whistleblower who worked with Heckler & Koch and spilled the beans on shady arms deals the company has made. Back in 2009, he reached Jürgen Grässlin, a German publicist and peace activist who has been waging his own war on the silent arms sales for years. This May, the case based on the whistleblower's revelations made it to court, with six former H&K employees in the dock.

The indictment focuses on 4,500 G36 assault rifles and other firearms that were sold in 16 batches to Mexico, despite the overwhelming level of drug-related violence in the country. The guns in question were used in the infamous militia attack on Mexican students in Iguala in 2014. Six students were killed in the assault and 43 were kidnapped, vanishing without a trace.

Obtaining arms export licenses, while extremely difficult in theory, proves to be way easier when corporations cozy up with politicians. The lobbyists receive large, yet untraceable donations, pushing through all the permissions needed to sell weapons to virtually anyone who's buying, the documentary says.

"There are several ways through which the arms industry influences politics. For instance, the SPD politician Johannes Kaas in 2005 received - via his district chapter - some 60-80 thousand euros in small donations. They were split up in such small amounts that he didn't have to declare them," German MP from the Left Party, Anita Scheller, told Redfish.

If an application fails despite the lobbyists' efforts, an arms manufacturer can appeal it with the so-called Security Council, consisting of senior cabinet ministers and presided by the Federal Chancellor. The council meets in secrecy and can decide singlehandedly whether to approve the export bid. Such a scheme gives "virtually no control" over the arms sales to German society, Rothbauer said.

Policy of Silence

Blowing the whistle on the shady arms deals comes at a heavy price. The whistleblower behind the Mexico rifles scandal has essentially had his life ruined. He lost his family, his job and was forced to leave Germany, according to his lawyer. However, it was not positively established that the threats against whistleblower came from H&K.

"You can say anything in Germany, as long as you don't attack the government for illegally selling weapons," Grässlin said.

Delving into the German arms industries' dirty secrets can come at an even heavier price, since "accidents" can happen to the whistleblowers and people are genuinely terrified to speak out, Grässlin claimed.

"In Germany, they don't shoot you in your head. In Germany they do it with a tragic accident of a citizen 'who had a car accident,'" he said.

The Redfish team travelled to the town of Oberndorf, where the H&K headquarters is located. The team was promptly "greeted" by the police, who urged them to stop filming. Locals were also reluctant to speak. One woman, who preferred to stay anonymous, explained that people were not talkative since the corporation has "really long arms."

The team then tried to get in touch with the Heckler & Koch at an arms expo in France, yet they did not receive a warm welcome. One H&K employee shoved one of the crew and then went into defense mode, simply ignoring any attempts to get a comment from them. Eventually, one of the top executives of the company agreed to talk to the journalists - sadly, strictly off the record.

Dodging Responsibilities by Moving Production Out of Germany

Another major German arms producer, the Rheinmetall Corporation, has seemingly dodged German laws in a simpler way, moving its factories to other countries with more lax weapon export rules. A subsidiary of Rheinmetall conglomerate, RWM Italia, came into the media spotlight following a Saudi-led coalition bombing run on October 8, 2018. It emerged the munition, which killed a family of six, including four children, was made at RWM Italia's factory in Sardinia.

The scheme used by Rheinmetall provides even less accountability since Berlin can shift the blame on Italy, where the factory is located, while Rome can point fingers back, stating it's actually owned by the Germans, the Redfish said.

The fragments of the bomb, namely a suspension lug to hold the bomb in place in an aircraft, were recovered at the site of the airstrike by the Yemen-based Mwatana Organization for Human Rights. The humanitarian group
filed a lawsuit against Rheinmetall's subsidiary in cooperation with the Berlin-based European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) and the Italian Rete Italiana per il Disarmo.

Battle of Gog/Magog On The Horizon?

BY BRITT GILLETTE/ENDTIMESBIBLEPROPHECY JULY 24, 2018

Recently, I was listening to a nationally syndicated radio program, and the host made an astonishing observation. She described a recent trip she took to Israel. She talked about looking over the border into Syria. Then she dropped a line that grabbed my attention. She said, "When you look over the border today, you're not looking at Syria anymore. You're looking at Russia, Iran, and Turkey."

This wasn't a religious broadcast. It was a secular, political talk show. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think the host realized the true significance of her observation. I don't think she spoke from a perspective of Bible prophecy, and it made her statement even more powerful. Because any objective observer has to agree with her.

The nation of Syria no longer exists. It may exist in name, but that's it. What used to be Syria has been carved up and divided by any number of groups. And the three biggest are Russia, Iran, and Turkey. Why is this so significant? It's significant because it sets the stage for an event the Bible prophesied over 2,000 years ago.

The Gog of Magog War

Twenty-six centuries ago, Ezekiel described a last days alliance that will invade Israel from the north. The Bible says a man named Gog will lead this massive invasion force (Ezekiel 38:2-6). Here are the nations who will join Gog, followed by their modern day names:

Rosh = Russia
Magog = Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan
Persia = Iran
Cush = Sudan
Put = Libya
Meshech, Tubal, Gomer, and Beth-togarmah = Turkey

Notice anything? That's right. Of all those nations, the three most powerful - Russia, Iran, and Turkey - now reside in Syria. They have military forces camped on Israel's border. And not just any border - Israel's northern border. Remember, Ezekiel said the Gog of Magog invasion force will come from the north (Ezekiel 38:15; Ezekiel 39:2). So now we have three of the nations in Gog's invading force perched on Israel's northern border. Mere coincidence? I don't think so.

The Bible foretold this exact scenario in Ezekiel 38-39. Never before have the military forces of these three nations been on Israel's northern border at the same time. And never in the history of the world, have the three formed an alliance. At least that is, until now...

In the past two decades, Russia and Iran have become close allies. In 1995, the Russian Ministry for Atomic Energy signed an agreement with Iran to finish the Bushehr nuclear power plant. This work had stopped following the 1979 Islamic revolution. Since then, the two nations continue to strengthen their economic and military ties.

Russia is one of the few world powers that consistently defended the existence of Iran's nuclear program. Today, both nations freely work together to prop up Bashar Assad's regime and suppress any opposing factions in Syria. They've coordinated military operations in Syria and carved the nation into spheres of influence. Despite thousands of years of recorded history in which there's no record of such Russian-Iranian cooperation, today we see it.

And what about Turkey? For years, those who study bible prophecy have wondered how Turkey fits into this alliance. After all, Turkey is a longtime ally of Israel. As a founding member of NATO, the idea of Turkey joining a Russian invasion of Israel has been hard for many to imagine. After all, NATO exists to combat Russian aggression. As recently as 2014, I noted in my book Signs of the Second Coming:

"Turkey is another interesting member of this military alliance. Since the restoration of Israel in 1948, those who understand bible prophecy have struggled to figure out how Turkey fits in. Why? Because in 1949, Turkey became the first Muslim majority country to officially recognize the state of Israel.

Turkey and Israel have a long history of diplomatic, economic, and military cooperation. Turkey is also a member of NATO. And what is the purpose of NATO? Its purpose is to defend member nations against Russian aggression. So why would Turkey join a Russian alliance to invade another country?

While it hasn't made sense in recent years, that idea doesn't seem so far-fetched today. In May 2010, Turkey and Russia signed a series of agreements enhancing their energy ties, including an agreement to build Turkey's first nuclear power plant. And in recent years, Turkey's domestic politics - historically secular in nature - have been heavily influenced by Islam. And that gives Turkey more than enough motive to join the Gog of Magog Alliance."

And here we are. The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has consolidated power in Turkey. Ataturk's Turkish Republic is dead. Its secular government is gone. In its place, Erdogan is building an Islamic Republic aligned against Israel. The relationship between Vladimir Putin and Erdogan is strong and growing. All that's left to take place is a clear break between Turkey and NATO, permanently moving Turkey into Russia's sphere of influence.

What It All Means

So what does all this mean? It means the stage is now set for the fulfillment of Ezekiel 38-39. And it means more events will begin to align with Ezekiel's account. Expect this alliance to get closer. Expect Israel to become isolated. And expect more nations to join Russia, Iran, and Turkey. As these events take place, it means the world draws closer and closer to witnessing the Gog of Magog war.

This means Russia, Iran, Turkey, and the other nations in the Gog of Magog alliance will send an overwhelming invasion force against Israel (Ezekiel 38:8-9). No other nation will come to Israel's defense (Ezekiel 38:15-16). But God will. This means He'll put His full power on display for the people of this world when He supernaturally destroys Israel's invaders (Ezekiel 38:18-23).

Most of all, it means we're in the last days (Ezekiel 38:8; Ezekiel 39:25-29), the Second Coming is near, and the rapture of the church is even closer!

Britt Gillette is author of the ebook Coming to Jesus as well as the books Signs of the Second Coming and Racing Toward Armageddon.
