As people like Maxine Waters are flying around the country, making angry speeches about ‘getting into faces’ of those who disagree with her politically, it seems that political discourse is becoming more tense, and often even violent. What happened this week inSan Antonio, Texas, at a Whataburger restaurant, only serves to drive home that point.
A 30-year-old adult in the restaurant assaulted a minor, threw drink in his face, stole hisTrump hat, and then walked out of the restaurant. No one stopped said ‘adult,’ though he faced some consequences later on when his own employer identified him and fired him for assaulting a minor. If nothing else, the employer deserves some credit for standing up for true openness and inclusion.
Now, police in the city are investigating the incident, looking for the assailant, Kino Jimenez, a bartender in the city and Green Party member.
In a video, which has since gone viral, Jimenez, with dark skin and a full beard, throws a drink in the face of a young man named Hunter Richard, then leaves the restaurant with the hat in tow.
According to the young Mr. Richard, who is 16 years-old, his assailant also pulled out some of his hair.
According to his two friends who were with him at the restaurant, they didn’t provoke the assault in any way.
The assault occurred at the Whataburger in San Antonio, off of Nacogdoches and Thousand Oaks, on Tuesday night, the day before America celebrated its independence.
After the assault occurred, the friends put the video up online, hoping to find out who the assailant was, and perhaps to get back the hat that had been stolen from Richard. It quickly went viral.
Since then, it has been discovered that it was Kino Ahuitzotl Jimenez who assaulted the boy. Though the recording did not pick up the audio very well, the assailant bragged that the hat was going to “go great” in his “f***ing fireplace, b***h.”
The bar that employed Jimenez, Rumble San Antonio, fired him for his actions. They also released a statement on Facebook, pointing out that their bar is entirely inclusive, even for people with different political stances and affiliations.
Perhaps most hilariously, the assailant is a member of the Green Party of Texas, which preaches non-violence and ‘social justice.’
The teen said that when he put the video up online, he didn’t think it would go viral, or become nearly as popular as it did.
He also said that the comments on his video were mixed, with some being supportive and pointing out how ridiculous it was for a grown man to assault minors over their political stances.
It seems like politically motivated violence, especially against people who have done nothing wrong other than having opinions dubbed ‘wrong’ by the political left, is on the rise in the United States.
It was only around a year ago that a leftist Bernie Sanders supporter fired on elected Republican politicians, who were simply practicing baseball for a friendly upcoming match with the Democrats.
It was shortly after Steve Scalise was shot that republican junior Kentucky Senator Rand Paul was assaulted on his own property in Bowling Green, Kentucky, by a neighbor.
The neighbor attempted to excuse his behavior by saying that Senator Paul was a bad neighbor, and that his pumpkin patch and compost had ‘devalued’ the properties nearby, but the local Homeowner’s Association found no record of complaints, and the neighbors didn’t substantiate the assailant’s claims either.
Just last week, Dr. Paul’s office in Bowling Green, Kentucky, received a call from a man who threatened to chop up the Senator and his family with an ax.
Meanwhile, Democrats like Maxine Waters, a Congressional Representative fromCalifornia, continue to push their followers to assail anyone who they disagree with.
In fact, Congresswoman Waters was supposed to give a speech in Texas just last weekend. She decided to cancel after her calls for violence and harassment against Republicans and members of the Donald Trump White House resulted in threats against her.
16-year-old Richard, however, has a better answer than simply stealing someone’s hat and pulling their hair, or threatening political opponents, or assaulting people for disagreeing politically.
He said that he supports President Donald J. Trump, and that if someone doesn’t, “let’s have a conversation about it” instead of resorting to assault and theft.
Political discourse in the United States seems to be reaching new lows daily. Unsurprisingly, the assailants are generally left-leaning, and the targets generally right-leaning in their politics.
Antifa, for example, seems to have carte blanche to act as they wish to, with minimal response from police in leftist enclaves like Berkeley or Portland.
Perhaps most astonishingly, many mainstream media outlets don’t seem interested in holding the political left accountable for people who answer their ‘call to action.’
This represents a stark difference in treatment from how the media treated the right afterGabrielle Giffords was shot. The media worked night and day to find an image of ‘targeted’ districts across the country that was years old, then suggested that the imagery of the crosshair might have driven the shooter to assault her.
It’s time for the left to hold its own accountable, and it’s time for a cessation of open hostility over political differences. Sadly, both the political left and their mainstream media allies seem disinterested in either, and continue to foment anger wherever they can.
