‘Kill all white people’: Accused killer who targeted white victims now charged in six deaths

For a year, the walking and biking trails snaking through south Kansas City, Mo., were plagued with bloodshed.

Beginning in August 2016 and continuing deep into the next year, the bodies of hikers and dog walkers were found dead along the city’s Indian Creek trail or on nearby roadways. They were all shot. They were all middle-aged. They were all white.

The killing stopped after the August arrest of Fredrick Demond Scott, a 22-year-old Burger King employee. As The Washington Post reported in September, Scott, who is African American, had allegedly threatened to shoot up his high school and “kill all white people.”

Last fall, Scott pleaded not guilty to three slayings: the deaths of Karen Harmeyer, 64; John Palmer, 54; and Steven Gibbons, 57.

He was the suspect in three additional deaths, and on Friday a grand jury in Jackson County indicted Scott in connection with them. The victims, according to the Associated Press, were Michael Darby, 61; Timothy Rice, 57; and David Lenox, 67.

In June 2017, police released footage of a person walking on the Indian Creek Trail who they believed to have had “vital information” about a May 2017 homicide.

Scott now faces a total six counts of first-degree murder and six counts of armed criminal action.

“We’re thankful that he is off the street and hopefully he’ll be held accountable for what he has done,” Mindy Lenox, the David Lenox’s daughter, told the Kansas City Star. “I don’t know for me personally that there is any closure. Nothing can bring my dad back and nothing can take that pain away, but at least knowing that the person responsible will be held accountable, it will certainly be helpful.”

Scott has yet to enter a plea to the latest charges.

Authorities have not publicly addressed a possible motive for the killings, racial or otherwise. In August, Scott’s mother told the Star her son was suffering from untreated paranoid schizophrenia and did not appear to be driven by racial animus.

“As far as I know Fredrick never had a problem with white people,” his mother told the newspaper. “He would do odd jobs for people and some of those people were white men.”

The first victim found was Palmer, in August 2016 in the woods off the Indian Creek trail, a 26-mile loop running through Kansas City. Four additional bodies were found through the year.

Karen Harmeyer, the only female victim, was killed in July 2017. According to Fox 4, she was homeless and was found dead in a tent by friends. Her killing was not initially linked to Scott after his arrest last fall. But in October, police charged the suspect with her death.

The last victim, Steven Gibbons, was killed after leaving a bus stop in August 2017.

The Gibbons slaying is what led authorities to Scott.

As The Post reported last year, security footage from the scene allegedly spotted Scott emerging from a city bus at the same stop as Gibbons. At the crime scene, police discovered a 32-ounce Brisk Iced Tea bottle. Working off security cameras from various stops along the route, detectives found footage of Scott buying the same drink.

After Scott’s arrest, local news outlets dug up his alleged past threats regarding race. In 2014, Scott was a student at an alternative school when he allegedly threatened to “shoot the school up, Columbine-style.” According to municipal court documents, he also spoke of wanting to kill himself and to “kill all white people.”

Gender Reassignment Surgeries on the Rise, Study Finds
By
, Christian Post Reporter |

Participants wait backstage before a transgender fashion show, held to raise funds for a local LGBT shelter, in Istanbul, Turkey. November 20, 2014.

Sex change operations are on the rise in the United States, according to a study released by the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The JAMA Network site published a paper on Wednesday by Joseph K. Canner, et al., that examined trends among Americans who identify as transgender and opt to have gender reassignment surgeries.

According to the data, researchers found that the percentage of so-called "gender affirming procedures" that involved genital removal and reconstruction had gone up between 2000 and 2014.

"The incidence of genital surgery increased over time: in 2000–2005, 72.0 percent of patients who underwent gender-affirming procedures had genital surgery; in 2006–2011, 83.9 percent of patients who underwent gender-affirming procedures had genital surgery," noted the study's abstract.

"Most patients (2,319 of 4,118 [56.3 percent]) undergoing these procedures were not covered by any health insurance plan. The number of patients seeking these procedures who were covered by Medicare or Medicaid increased by threefold in 2014 (to 70) compared with 2012–2013 (from 25)."

Researchers also concluded that past studies analyzing the percentage of transgender individuals seeking gender reassignment surgery have been underestimated.

"... although some studies have estimated that only 20 percent to 40 percent of transgender individuals seek [gender reassignment] surgery, these estimates are only based on surveys of convenience samples of transgender individuals, which limits their generalizability," noted the study's Introduction.

"As transgender individuals have become more visible in mainstream society, we hypothesize that an increasing number of [gender reassignment] surgical procedures have occurred over time."

The study used the National Inpatient Sample to analyze approximately 37,800 individuals who were identified by a diagnosis code of either transsexualism or gender identity disorder. Of that number, an estimated 4,100 had a surgery.

In recent years, there has been an increased focus on transgender issues in western countries, with some evidence indicating that the number of self-identified transgenders is on the rise.

In July, The Telegraph found that the number of British children being referred to "gender identity clinics" had increased over the past five years.

The Telegraph said that statistics it obtained from the Gender Identity Development Service showed that 84 children aged between 3 and 7 were referred to the clinic in 2016, while only 20 received such a referral from 2012–2013.

"It has become an industry, people are making a career out of encouraging children to question gender at an age when they need to be left to be children," said Chris McGovern, a former adviser to the Department for Education, to The Telegraph last year.

"When teachers raise these issues children can become confused or unhappy and traumatized by it."

According to a 2003 study conducted in Sweden, transsexuals who change their gender through body mutilation or hormone therapy have a higher suicide rate than the general population.

The study, which followed 191 male-to-female gender reassignments and 133 female-to-male gender reassignments from 1973–2003, found that suicide attempts and in-patient psychiatric treatment actually increased in Sweden among those who had a sex change.

Thousands More Stores Are On The 2018 Retail Apocalypse Death List

BY DAISY LUTHER/ORGANIC PREPPER MARCH 06, 2018

Every year, it seems like more and more retail outlets are going out of business, resulting in the loss of jobs and local supplies.

Last year, hundreds of stores closed, and this year, even more shops are scheduled to shut their doors for good.

The 2018 Death List

This year, in an effort to save their businesses, the following retailers will close hundreds of their stores, according to Fox Business.

- Abercrombie & Fitch: 60 more stores are charted to close
- Aerosoles: Only 4 of their 88 stores are definitely remaining open
- American Apparel: They’ve filed for bankruptcy and all their stores have closed (or will soon)
- BCBG: 118 stores have closed
- Bebe: Bebe is history and all 168 stores have closed
- Bon-Ton: They’ve filed for Chapter 11 and will be closing 48 stores.
- The Children’s Place: They plan to close hundreds of stores by 2020 and are going digital.
- CVS: They closed 70 stores but thousands still remain viable.
- Foot Locker: They’re closing 110 underperforming stores shortly.
- Guess: 60 stores will bite the dust this year.
- Gymboree: A whopping 350 stores will close their doors for good this year
- HHGregg: All 220 stores will be closed this year after the company filed for bankruptcy.
- J. Crew: They’ll be closing 50 stores instead of the original 20 they had announced.
- J.C. Penney: They’ve closed 138 stores and plan to turn all the remaining ones into toy stores.
- The Limited: All 250 retail locations have been closed and they’ve gone digital in an effort to remain in business.
- Macy’s: 7 more stores will soon close and more than 5000 employees will be laid off.
- Michael Kors: They’ll close 125 stores this year.
- Payless: They’ll be closing a whopping 800 stores this year after recently filing for bankruptcy.
- Radio Shack: More than 1000 stores have been shut down this year, leaving them with only 70 stores nationwide.
- Rue 21: They’ll be closing 400 stores this year.
- Sears/Kmart: They’ve closed over 300 locations.
- ToysRUs: They’ve filed for bankruptcy but at this point, have not announced store closures, and have in fact, stated their stores will remain open.
- Wet Seal: This place is history – all 171 stores will soon be closed.

And these are just the people who have announced store closures so far. In an environment hostile to brick and mortar businesses, more are sure to come.

Tens of thousands of jobs will be lost.

Even if you don’t like to shop, this is a sign of economic trouble. The malls that sit empty are a sign of massive unemployment.

Jobs in the retail sector are the most prolific in America, employing 4.3 million workers as salespeople and 3.3 million workers as cashiers. The current store closures mean the end of employment for tens of thousands of workers.

All in all, the collapse of the retail industry could, at some point, put the livelihoods of more than 7 million people in jeopardy. Perhaps the doomsaying economists like Peter Schiff and Dave Kunstler are right when they warn that a Great Depression the likes of the one in the early 1900s is upon us.

That means not only massive unemployment but also massive hyperinflation, making it nearly impossible to stay fed.

Let’s add to rising retail unemployment the move to more self-checkout, more AI, and more computerized systems instead of human staff. It’s not too hard to understand why people could soon be dependent on a Universal Basic Income and a return to an almost feudal society.

A Great Depression now would be far worse than the historic one we all look back on.

And if that’s the case, it’s bound to be even worse. Back in 2006, our urban population exceeded our rural population for the first time ever. This means that people will be unlikely to have the space to grow food for self-reliance.

As well, we’ve gotten so far away from the skills of self-reliance that it’s practically a lost art. Our society is one of consumers, not producers, and this means that in a depressed economy, many more people will be at the mercy of government handouts. And let’s face it, in a depression, those handouts, if they happen at all, will be very sparse.

These days, most folks don’t know how to grow food, preserve food, sew, or build.

Is the retail apocalypse a sign of impending financial doom or merely a move toward a more digital society?

As yellow fever spreads toward big cities, Brazil struggles to vaccinate millions

With air mattresses and beach chairs tucked under their arms, they began arriving as early as midnight, lining up down the sidewalk and around the corner in downtown Sao Paulo, Brazil.

"Make sure you have your vaccination card and your number in hand," a public health clinic worker shouted to those lucky enough to have one of the 300 numbers that would allow them to receive a full dose of the yellow fever vaccine, good for a lifetime.

"If you're not here when your number is called, you'll lose your place in line!"

Brazil is fighting to stay ahead of one of its worst epidemics of yellow fever, a sometimes-fatal virus transmitted by
Haemagogus and Sabethes mosquitoes and named for the yellowing of the skin and eyes of those infected.

Though the surge has largely been in rural areas, there is increasing concern that if people don't get the vaccine, the virus could spread into the country's biggest cities.

Those lined up on the January morning in Sao Paulo were also racing against the clock. The Brazilian government, faced with the task of vaccinating millions as quickly as possible, said it would begin reducing vaccine doses in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro by the end of January to help stretch supplies.

Though health officials insisted even a partial dose would protect people for up to eight years, many remained unconvinced.

"Why would I only want only part of a vaccination?" asked Isabel Antonia Martins, who waited in line that day. "We don't know if it will have the same effect as a full dose. I'm not taking any chances, especially with the way yellow fever has been spreading."

Unlike the country's recent epidemic of Zika, another mosquito-borne virus that caused microcephaly and other birth defects in hundreds of babies, the yellow fever that is spreading across the country is not being transmitted by Aedes aegypti, the urban-dwelling mosquito blamed for the Zika epidemic.

Still, the yellow fever that has surged in rural parts of the country has made its way into Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, three states with some of the country's largest metropolitan centers — areas where people traditionally don't have to worry about getting the vaccine.

"It's a case of opportunity," said Mauricio Nogueira, president of the Brazilian Society for Virology. "To urbanize, it would need a population that is susceptible [to the virus] and mosquitoes that are susceptible to the city. So the quicker we control these rural outbreaks, the lower the chances that it will urbanize.

"It's something we can't waver on," he added. "We need to vaccinate the largest number of people as quickly as possible."

The advancing virus has stoked both fear and suspicion in Brazil's urban centers.

People line up for hours to get the vaccine. Cases of the doses have been stolen from government health clinics and private practices. And in Sao Paulo, 32 city parks were closed after a monkey contracted yellow fever and began to die. In a surge of panic and misunderstanding, people began slaughtering monkeys, wrongly thinking they were responsible for spreading the virus.

Sao Paulo state has seen the most dramatic jump in cases of yellow fever. In the first six weeks of 2018, there were already 133 confirmed cases and 49 deaths blamed on the virus, a staggering increase from 2017 when there were 53 cases and 16 deaths for the entire year. Rio had 47 cases and 21 deaths in January alone, compared with 27 cases and nine deaths for all of the previous year.

Yellow fever's migration south, which Nogueira says has always been monitored, comes as no surprise to specialists. But the speed at which it has been traveling is something new. As the virus spreads and moves toward areas generally not threatened by yellow fever, the government's vaccination campaign has struggled to keep up.

Even with the early rush to get vaccinated, the Ministry of Health's goal to vaccinate 20.5 million people in Sao Paulo and Rio between Jan. 25 and Feb. 15 reached only 20% of its targeted population. With just 3.6 million people vaccinated, it decided to extend the campaign into March.

But some people are choosing to forgo the vaccination, convinced by rumors that the vaccine is a bigger threat than the actual virus, false information that has been passed along on social media.

A post on Facebook claiming a teenager died because of side effects from the yellow fever vaccine went viral, even though officials from the town where she lived said the teen's death was due to bacterial pneumonia. An audio recording of a woman claiming to be a doctor and warning that the vaccine isn't safe also made the rounds on WhatsApp, a popular messaging app in Brazil.

Although there were five deaths attributed to the vaccine in Brazil last year, such serious problems are rare. Side effects of the yellow fever vaccine are usually minor and include headaches, muscle pain, low-grade fever and a mild rash.

The real problem, according to Nogueira, isn't the vaccine, but the government's lack of transparency.

"Brazilians should be more concerned about the transparency of their government," he said. "The government needs to be very clear and needs to explain why it didn't start vaccinating last year. It needs to say, 'Look, we didn't have enough vaccines then.' And it needs to admit that what we have right now is an epidemic."
